5.0 out of 5 stars OK, I bought it because of the car spot!, October 24, 2003

Just like the group's debut CD, interest for me in this group was spawned by the hit Mitsubishi ad. That withstanding, how does "A Night at the Tables" measure up to their international smash debut? Well, it's a decent blend of house, trance, disco, dance, Europop...whatever one wants to call it.

And what more can be a guy that occasionally likes to "trip the light fantastic" ask for?

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning house mix for your Saturday nights, February 15, 2003

This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
I'm not really a big house music fan as I once was a few years ago but I am a big fan of Dirty Vegas. I absolutely adore their self-titled debut album. I had to have their mix cd "Night at the Tables". I enjoyed "Night at the Tables" a lot. I thought it was a great mix of techno and house music, with maybe hints of trance thrown into the mix. I'm glad to see that they didn't make this mix cd any really predictable by throwing in their big hit "Days Go By". I love that song to pieces but by adding it to the mix, they would have the cd pretty predictable by diehard dance enthusiasts like myself. The song selection was pretty solid I thought. Although "Love At First Sight" isn't my favorite Kylie Minoge song, I definitely prefer the Scumfrog Beauty & The Beast Vocal Mix over the original version. Most of the songs I am not really familiar with but I did enjoy them. I love the two Dirty Vegas songs they threw in, "Ghosts" and "I Should Know" are my personal DV songs. The remixes were fantastic and very energetic. And of course my favorite Underworld song from their new album, "2 Months Off". Solid album. Definitely an excellent album to throw into the stereo before hitting the night clubs on a Saturday night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously addictive house....., February 3, 2003
By
This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
It was in December 2000 when a little known band who called themselves "Dirty Harry" first made their debut single 'Days go By' on Pete Tong's Essential Selection show.. Today, their name is Dirty Vegas and they've conquered America with their hit single..

The first mix I heard from them was last June's covermount mix cd for Muzik Magazine.. they did a superb job of mixing and playing with the accapellas. From then on they had caught my attention..

After listening to their Essential Mix on Radio One last year, I was blown away with their track selection and mixing.. They play just about the best house music i've heard in a long time. Funky, groovy and addictive with phat chugging basslines. This CONVINCED me of their extreme talent behind the decks and not only in production.

With great excitement, I finally got my hands on this album. Dirty Vegas did not disappoint. It starts off with a rather happy pop like vibe, with Scumfrog's take on Kylie Minogue's "Love at First Sight", which slowly becomes darker with Oscar G and Ralph Falcon's "Dark Beat" creeping in. Now this tune is one floor stomper when played loud in a club system, listen to the vocals and you'll know what i mean.. "Dark Beat" slowly fades away into the background and Underworld's "2 Months Off" slowly mixes in with Karl Hyde's anthemic voice chanting with an electronic monotone... uplifting!

The album then progresses on to a more relaxed housey feel with Starecase's "See" and then "Keep on Moving" which really sounds like BPT's "Moody". Sandy Rivera's "Changes" is simply lovely! Chilled n soulful listening..

Then comes a monster track: Dirty Vegas's "Ghost". Now MAS collective did one superb job of remixing this track into a progressive killer! The classic single "Be Yourself" by Celada follows, it is a diva classic, championed by the likes of Danny Tenaglia. "Temptations" follows with a percussive n hypnotic feel to it..the seductive female vocals talking about temptations and sins would heat up any dancefloor instantly.

Another track i personally like is Del Gado's "Coffee Beats Vol 2" which really sounds like a live percussion act by a tabla player, bringing a raw and dirty tribal feel guaranteed to make you move.. and the album wraps up with none other than Dirty Vegas's new single "I Should Know".

Its hard to find a good house album that manages to cross and blend so many sub genres of house and still captivate you all the way.. in a space of one cd! Definitly a worthwhile buy so don't hesitate!

Paul Harris, Ben Harris & Steve Smith. That's Dirty Vegas for you. These guys have outdone themselves again this time. Lets hope to see more of them in the future..
