5.0 out of 5 stars OK, I bought it because of the car spot!
Just like the group's debut CD, interest for me in this group was spawned by the hit Mitsubishi ad. That withstanding, how does "A Night at the Tables" measure up to their international smash debut? Well, it's a decent blend of house, trance, disco, dance, Europop...whatever one wants to call it.

And what more can be a guy that occasionally likes to...

3.0 out of 5 stars not that good really
Big fan of Dirty Vegas but the mixes here are pretty forgettable. Even the 2 mixes of Dirty Vegas' songs are uninteresting. A couple of the others songs are outright terrible. It looks like this was a quick cash-in for the band while their other album was on the charts

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning house mix for your Saturday nights, February 15, 2003
By
This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
I'm not really a big house music fan as I once was a few years ago but I am a big fan of Dirty Vegas. I absolutely adore their self-titled debut album. I had to have their mix cd "Night at the Tables". I enjoyed "Night at the Tables" a lot. I thought it was a great mix of techno and house music, with maybe hints of trance thrown into the mix. I'm glad to see that they didn't make this mix cd any really predictable by throwing in their big hit "Days Go By". I love that song to pieces but by adding it to the mix, they would have the cd pretty predictable by diehard dance enthusiasts like myself. The song selection was pretty solid I thought. Although "Love At First Sight" isn't my favorite Kylie Minoge song, I definitely prefer the Scumfrog Beauty & The Beast Vocal Mix over the original version. Most of the songs I am not really familiar with but I did enjoy them. I love the two Dirty Vegas songs they threw in, "Ghosts" and "I Should Know" are my personal DV songs. The remixes were fantastic and very energetic. And of course my favorite Underworld song from their new album, "2 Months Off". Solid album. Definitely an excellent album to throw into the stereo before hitting the night clubs on a Saturday night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously addictive house....., February 3, 2003

This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
It was in December 2000 when a little known band who called themselves "Dirty Harry" first made their debut single 'Days go By' on Pete Tong's Essential Selection show.. Today, their name is Dirty Vegas and they've conquered America with their hit single..

The first mix I heard from them was last June's covermount mix cd for Muzik Magazine.. they did a superb job of mixing and playing with the accapellas. From then on they had caught my attention..

After listening to their Essential Mix on Radio One last year, I was blown away with their track selection and mixing.. They play just about the best house music i've heard in a long time. Funky, groovy and addictive with phat chugging basslines. This CONVINCED me of their extreme talent behind the decks and not only in production.

With great excitement, I finally got my hands on this album. Dirty Vegas did not disappoint. It starts off with a rather happy pop like vibe, with Scumfrog's take on Kylie Minogue's "Love at First Sight", which slowly becomes darker with Oscar G and Ralph Falcon's "Dark Beat" creeping in. Now this tune is one floor stomper when played loud in a club system, listen to the vocals and you'll know what i mean.. "Dark Beat" slowly fades away into the background and Underworld's "2 Months Off" slowly mixes in with Karl Hyde's anthemic voice chanting with an electronic monotone... uplifting!

The album then progresses on to a more relaxed housey feel with Starecase's "See" and then "Keep on Moving" which really sounds like BPT's "Moody". Sandy Rivera's "Changes" is simply lovely! Chilled n soulful listening..

Then comes a monster track: Dirty Vegas's "Ghost". Now MAS collective did one superb job of remixing this track into a progressive killer! The classic single "Be Yourself" by Celada follows, it is a diva classic, championed by the likes of Danny Tenaglia. "Temptations" follows with a percussive n hypnotic feel to it..the seductive female vocals talking about temptations and sins would heat up any dancefloor instantly.

Another track i personally like is Del Gado's "Coffee Beats Vol 2" which really sounds like a live percussion act by a tabla player, bringing a raw and dirty tribal feel guaranteed to make you move.. and the album wraps up with none other than Dirty Vegas's new single "I Should Know".

Its hard to find a good house album that manages to cross and blend so many sub genres of house and still captivate you all the way.. in a space of one cd! Definitly a worthwhile buy so don't hesitate!

Paul Harris, Ben Harris & Steve Smith. That's Dirty Vegas for you. These guys have outdone themselves again this time. Lets hope to see more of them in the future..

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Driving music, January 31, 2003

This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
I recieved this as a B-day gift this week. As I loved the self titled disk (which hasn't left my car since September), I thought this just might be some remixes of the songs from that disk...until I flipped the disk over.
First impression was that "Tables" was going to be easily datable material with Kylie Minogue being on the first track. However, once this disk was fired up in the car..I was quickly mistaken. Like Paul Oakenfold's "Another World" or "Ibzia" (disk 2) each song flows nicely into the next blocking out the noise of the world for well over an hour.
If you're a fan of trance, or even of just DV you'll like this disk a lot. Where Oakenfold has gone from mixing sets to individual songs, DV has gone from individual songs to mixing a great set.

Enjoy -- I've been.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Night at the Club With Dirty Vegas., February 2, 2003
By
This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
After making a splash in 2002 with their impressive self-titled debut album (imagine Simon and Garfunkel making a disco record, and you'll get the idea), the UK trio Dirty Vegas showcase their talents as DJs on their mix CD, "A Night at the Tables." It's not officially a new DV album per se, but rather a mixed collection of the group's favorite dancefloor numbers. Although they don't bring anything new to the table in terms of skills or taste, they clearly know what jams work in a club. The beat starts with a hot remix Kylie's "Love at First Sight," while other highlights include "Keep on Moving" by the legendary Frankie Knuckles and the dark house-ed up "Be Yourself" by Celeda. They also give a little dash of trance on the energetic "2 Months Off" by Underworld. The overall feel of the album is Eurodisco with a few nice touches of soulful house. The members of Dirty Vegas apparently aren't shy about promoting their own material, for "A Night at the Tables" also features two agreeable discocentric remixes of their own songs: "Ghosts" and "I Should Know." At over 70 minutes, the disc does the job pretty well and should satisfy fans until the trio's new studio album comes along.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT., November 17, 2010
This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
This set is so nasty. Dark tribal beats, some more progressive beats but the bottom line is beats and lots of them. I find their mixing to be flawless and this set is just full of energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not that good? You're right . . . it's utterly fantastic!, April 27, 2010
This review is from: Night at the Tables (Audio CD)
When I get tired of the collections with one song after another, with silence in between, and want to jam into a fantasy show, I plug this one in. Dirty Vegas should have promoted this realm of music with a live show much like The Pet Shop Boys have done. Some of these very fine tune dance numbers scream for a live show of dancers, and light show extraveganza. The songs just melt into each other with the grace of a feather, while the beat pounds. Some tracks send me to the dark parts of Africa with it's mesmorizing chants. I just wish there was some artistic theater group who would have tried to land an artsy show done to this music to give it more push.
This is a great CD, make no mistakes and have not heard something this fantastic since Modern English's After The Snow.
If the bongo drums don't get you, the soulful female vocal chorus will.
Excellent throughout!

The mixes drone a bit more than they should -- if you are looking for something as good as any song on Dirty Vegas' last CD, you won't find even one song that good. Even the remixes of Dirty Vegas songs are uninspired. I'm not sure why other reviewers can give this 4 and 5 stars
