In 1984, another Christmas classic was released: "The Night They Saved Christmas." This movie of full love, giving and holiday fun. This movie has a great cast of chracters and is sure to get you into the holiday spirit and it will remind you how important Christmas really is.

As we start out, we meet Mr. Baldwin, a professional oil rigger who has been dynamiting ice fields near the north pole. This smells trouble for Santa and the elves. So Mr. Balwdin and his wife Claudia go home and there we meet his kids, David(oldest), Marianne (middle), and C.B. (youngest). David is basically a good kid that is sort of a suck-up to his parents. Marianne is an average yound girl with a heart of gold. Their youngest son C.B. is a trouble maker. He's always getting into fights with bullies who parade around saying, "There's NO Santa Claus." So C.B. is having trouble getting into the holiday spirit.

The next day Mr. Baldwin meets Santa's chief elf named Ed. He warns Mr. Balwdin that he has to stop the dynamiting because he will eventually blow up the North Pole. He breaks out in laughter and doesn't believe any of this. So Mr. Baldwin goes home and relays this whole story to his family and everyone laughs except C.B. because he's the only one that believes it.

The next day when Mr. Baldwin goes to work, Ed (Chief Elf) visits Claudia and her kids at their house and brings them to the north pole in a motorized Reindeer sleigh. There Claudia and the kids meet all the elves and SANTA! Then they go visit Santa's house where he has a talk with Claudia as to why they should stop the dynamiting. She is convinced that this tragedy will happen if they don't stop now. So she and the kids go home and she tries to get her husband to stop right away. Finally he stops the dynamiting.

This is movie is full of love, laughter and joy and is a Christmas classic. The movie has great visual effects and the setting of the North Pole is unbelievably stunning. This movie should be the next Christmas movie in your collection.

This movie deserves 5 stars! I can't belive they haven't produced this on DVD in the US. It's been years since I heard it was on DVD in the UK (you can buy it from eBay, but you can't play it unless you have a region 2 player).

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Night They Saved Christmas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I didn't grow up watching this Christmas movie and didn't see The Night They Saved christmas until last Christmas of 2004 and I Liked the movie and thought it was entertaining and the acting was pretty good, especially from Jaclyn Smith, Paul Le Mat and Mason Adams. The movie is about a family living in The North Pole where the father played by Paul Le Matt works for an oil company and they are drilling for oil in The North Pole hoping to find oil but unfortunately they are putting Santa and his workshop at risk and an Elf played by Paul Williams comes and brings the wife played by Jaclyn Smith and her children to the North Pole to meet Santa played by Art Carney and to see the damage that the oil company is doing and to get them to help get them to stop drilling in their area and to save Christams deliveries, etc. This is a cute movie and I would like to see it put on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Night They Saved Christmas, November 26, 2001

I have been watching this movie since the first year it aired, when I was about 6. It is a magical Christmas story with warmth and spirit. This has joined the original Miracle on 34th Street with Natalie Wood and Maureen O'Hara as one of my two favorite Christmas movies. Watching this movie should become a Christmas tradition for all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Childhood memories, November 27, 1999

This movie does an excellent job of mixing great performances with nice effects. Each character is believeable and lovable. If you had lost your faith in Santa Clause and his helpers this movie will help you renew it. My siblings and I watched this movie each Christmas season for many years growing up. Because my siblings and I no longer live together we seemed to miss it when it showed on television the last couple of years. We've been looking for it on VHS and you've brought it back to us. Thank you!
