Jimmy Burns, Yes, He Does!,
By deepbluereview "deepbluereview" (SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night Time Again (Audio CD)
Jimmy Burn's sophomore release in many ways surpasses his debut "Leaving Here Walking". While "Leaving Here..." was an excellent traditional blues release, "Night Time Again" expands the horizon with a mixture of Blues, Rock, and 50's style R&B. Stylistically, Burns sounds a bit like a matured Robert Cray, although his playing is not to Cray's caliber. With 10 original tunes and covers of Willie Dixon's "Shake For Me", Curtis Mayfield's "Monkey Time" and Lowman Pauling's "Baby Don't Do It" and "Two Much Loving", this CD is definetly something to hear. Perhaps a little more diverse than "Leaving Here...", but it works successfully just the same. Essentially, you can't miss with either disc.

Good, Fun Honky-Tonk Blues!,

This review is from: Night Time Again (Audio CD)
This is an example of what I call 'good-time blues' -- mostly upbeat, rockin' tunes with an strong undercurrent of soul. Fun, toe-tapping music that anyone but the sourest grinch should enjoy! 'Shake for Me' is especially enjoyable. You won't go wrong with this one!

Jimmy Burns hits another one out of the ballpark!,
By Jeff (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night Time Again (Audio CD)
Jimmy Burns comes out of the studio with another outstanding recording. More diverse than "Leaving Here Walking", this cd shows the depth and range of this man's journey in music. Tracks like "Monkey Time", "1959 Revisited: A Tribute" reach back to Jimmy's early career in soul and r&b. "Here It Is Night Time Again", "Hard Road", "You Say You Need Lovin'", have a hard driving West Side feel, and "Why You Wanna Start A Fight?" shows that Burns can rock! This cd avoids following a formula. Jimmy Burns is not afraid to take out the stops and give you what he really feels.
