5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Collector's Edition for ANY Rod Stewart fan.
First of all, the original album is one of Rod Stewart's best. Chances are you know about the singles--Tonight's the Night, First Cut is the Deepest and the underrated "Killing of Georgie" but the rest of the tracks are all as good, with the exception of "Trade Winds." The rockers are high energy affairs with Rod wrapping that magnficent voice around amazing guitar work...

1.0 out of 5 stars What Happened To The Sound Quality?
I was excited to get A Night On The Town in a special edition. I love Rod Stewart's first couple of Warner Bothers albums. This is now the third time I bought A Night On The Town On CD. This is not to mention my two album copies when the album first came out. The Remaster from 2006 is clearly better sounding than this release. Even when I adjusted the volume of the 2006...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Collector's Edition for ANY Rod Stewart fan., July 4, 2009
First of all, the original album is one of Rod Stewart's best. Chances are you know about the singles--Tonight's the Night, First Cut is the Deepest and the underrated "Killing of Georgie" but the rest of the tracks are all as good, with the exception of "Trade Winds." The rockers are high energy affairs with Rod wrapping that magnficent voice around amazing guitar work by Steve Cropper and other great studio musicians. And "Fool for You" is something of a forgotten Rod Stewart classic.

But the real treat here on this limited edition is the second disc. Starting with a never-before released song, "Share" which maybe a little weak lyrically but is still a vital track due to Stewart's delivery. The disc then features alternative versions of the entire original album. "Tonight's the Night" features a different third verse, and this new unearthed version of "First Cut is the Deepest" may actually be better than the orginal.

All of the versions of disc 2 are unpolished wich provides a unique listening experience that I highly recommend to all Rod Stewart fans. If you EVER liked a Night on the Town, you will love this limited collector's edition. But get it quick as it won't be around for too long!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Album, June 20, 2005

This review is from: A Night On The Town (Audio CD)
Rod Stewart has made possibly every type of song in his illustrious career, and this album is a fine example of just how diverse Rod is. This is one of those albums where you don't skip to the next track; every track is that good. The "slow half" features the obviously slower, lovelier tracks, while the "fast half" features throw-it-in-your-face boogie down songs. For a relaxing evening of enjoyable, high-quality songs, pick this 1976 gem up.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT reissue of one of Rod's best albums, August 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is for the 2009 2CD Limited Edition (catalogue # R2 516570).

I only knew this album through the hits "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)", The Killing of Georgie" and "The First Cut Is The Deepest" but bought it based on the multiple positive recommendations at the Steve Hoffman forums (the best place on the internet for discussing the sound quality of music releases). Audiophiles at that site (Google it) have said "... the original mastering is a little brighter in the upper frequencies, and I think that Rod's voice sounds more natural on the new remaster .... These releases are really great and worthwhile" - I agree 100% with those comments.

This 2CD set has excellent sound quality that is a worthwhile upgrade over ALL previous releases.

Bottom line:
- This album has converted me from a casual fan to a much more serious Rod Stewart fan.
- The SQ is very very good. The packaging is superb (although I'm not the biggest fan of this digi-pak style), although all the artwork is printed on thick card and the booklet is printed on very good quality paper. The graphics are excellent quality.

Highly recommended to buy this - even if you're just a casual Rod fan (as I was), you will find extra material on here worth listening to. It's that good I also bought the Atlantic Crossing (2 CD Limited Edition) too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Where are the rest?, June 14, 2010

The deluxe editions of A Night On The Town and Atlantic Crossing that were released in 2009 were both fantastic. Terrific sound quality and excellent bonus material. They represent the best of what archival reissues should be. But I am concerned that with the financial decline of Rhino Records, that the remaining reissues in this series will not be released. Deluxe editions of Footloose and Fancy Free and Blondes Have More Fun were supposed to have been released in early 2010 but they have fallen off the radar. What a shame. The remastering is all done and all they have to do is release it. You'd think with Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? being voted one of the 500 Greatest Songs in the current Rolling Stone collector's edition, that this would be a great time to put out such a reissue. I hope that the rest of these collector's editions are released. Write to Warners/Rhino if you'd also like to seem them released. I understand the work is already done on all of them and they're just sitting there waiting to be released.

Simply one of the finest albums of Rod Stewart, "Tonight's the night" was the song to make love to all the Rod Stewart's fans in the seventies, romantic, beautiful and delightful, great song, great album!!! To make the things better the album also brings smash songs like "The Firts Cut is the Deepest" and "The Killing of Georgie".

4.0 out of 5 stars COLLECTOR'S EDITION COMING JUNE 30, 2009, February 22, 2009
This review is from: A Night On The Town (Audio CD)
Look for Rhino's 2-disc collector's editions of A Night on the Town and Atlantic Crossing, both coming June 30, 2009. These are excellent album from 1975 and 1976 and the collector's edition should be fantastic as this is when Rod may have been peaking as a songwriter.

Rod Stewart / A Night On The Town: This is no masterpiece, it's not Rod's best album, but it is still a Five Star album. This is a wonderful addition to the Rod Stewart album collection you should already have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth adding to your collection even if you already have one, November 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As the other reviewers write, Disk 2 is a must-have for any Rod fan. It contains a bare-bone version of the entire album. Several songs, notably on the "slow" side, sound very different from the final versions; in particular, Fool for You has completely different lyrics and very different music. The "fast" side is closer to the final but much rougher and simpler.

What is more interesting, at least to me, is that the songs on Disk 1, which is supposedly a remaster of the original album, have subtle but notable differences throughout the disk. You hear sounds you did not hear on the original here and there; it should be labeled re-mix rather than remaster. Most prominent are First Cut Is the Deepest and Big Bayou, which are almost alternative versions. Listen to the introduction of the Deepest, or the alternative ending of the Bayou.

Even if you already have a remastered CD of 2000, which is more faithful to the original record, this is worth adding to your Rod collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente álbum, September 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A Night on The town (1976) é um dos melhores discos de Rod Stewart. Além dos hits: "Tonights the night" e "the first cut is the deepest", tem pérolas como "fool for you", "the killing of georgie I e II" e "trade winds".
