this is too funny. in the description: "The secret of this hat is a pocket of unique impact material that is 100% the density of lead and which is sewn into the cap."

on the cap's tag: "Lead filled pocket"

so we may safely conclude that lead is indeed 100% the density of lead. XD good to know, huh?



okay, back to the review. it's a few ounces of lead shot that turns a cap into a blackjack. it doesn't seem heavy, but the flexibility allows a very strong arc-swing. this is a last-ditch self-defense system that WILL take an attacker by surprise. or, you know, the neighbor's kids. or the parking cop that's writing your ticket. or that dog that won't stop barking.

note: do not use to defend against zombies, or bears

Broke right out of the package. Here's why: the little ball bearings that make up the sap are sewn in a square in the back of the cap, using cheap paper/thin plastic - whatever it is crackles, so not a sturdy material. Since the air holes in the back of the cap are not even sewn up, when the paper/plastic sap rips or gaps in the seam, the little ball bearings coming pouring out of the cap. Cheap Cheap Cheap + Major Design Flaw, BOO on CUTLERY USA, MOULTRIE GA. They clearly get a lot of returns, have an easy return process but since I paid S&H both ways I am out at least $10, 1/2 the price of the damn cap to begin with - I bet that's how they make their profit. And BOO on Amazon for not screening these huckster vendors. Ebay is more quality conscious than these guys, and that's not saying much. Live and Learn.

I bought 2 of these hats. My wife asked me how they worked, and I set up a grapefruit on the table outside and hit the grapefruit with the hat. The *single stitched pocket* that holds the buckshot tore open on the first impact, tossing the buckshot everywhere. If they would have just double-stitched it, it would have worked fine. But they didn't, and for that reason alone, this is a "one hit" hat.

hat seems well made, sturdy, strong. I just wanted a plain black hat and thought this would be fun as a bonus. i wouldn't trust it to save my life but it does pack a punch. it sits a bit heavy on the head but you get used to it easy enough.
