5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT READ--small SPOILER, February 16, 2012

This review is from: Nightway (Paperback)
I love this book, having read it multipe times years ago, I downloaded it a few days ago to my Kindle and just finished reading it again. Janet Dailey always manages a good read.

Hawk is a young Indian boy raised on the reservation with his mother. His father is a very wealthy white man that comes to visit about twice a week. One night his mother and baby sister are caught in a snow storm and perish. Hawk's father comes to take him back home with him, only Hawk can't live with his father, J.B., because J.B. already has a family and another son. So J.B. has the foreman of his ranch take in his son. Hawk experiences hatred from all corners of his life and an absent father who seems to be ashamed of him. (this is a very well written part of the book that actually had me smiling and crying)

Lanna is a nurse in Phoenix who, during a hard rainstorm, picks up a stranded elderly man on the side of the road. John and Lanna become fast friends, spending a couple days/nights a week together, always talking or visiting different places. On Lanna's birthday, John takes her to out to eat and then they come back to her house, where he has a heart attack. At the hospital she learns the truth about John, that he is J.B. and she meets both sons, but only is told that one is his son (Chad). Meanwhile Hawk has brought both J.B.'s wife and Chad's wife to the hospital, but he is not allowed to see his father as he is not "family".

Hawk ends up taking Lanna home and the phyical chemistry between them leads them into the bedroom.

I don't want to give away anymore more of the book as the twists and turns have you hanging on to every page. The ending is a little abrupt and keeps you wondering about a few of the characters in the book, but over all, a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I Could Forget This Story, so I Could Enjoy it Again., February 9, 2012
This review is from: Night Way (Paperback)
I read this book some time ago and loved it. Then, while sorting through some books the other day, I ran across this book and could not put it down. I had to read it again.

Ms Dailey not only teaches us about history, she does it in such a way that it is weaved into stories so real you feel you are there. Her characters are true to their personalities and do not waver into someone other than their real personalities.

In this amazing book of love, hate, power and revenge, Ms Dailey pulls you into the life of Hawk, a young Indian boy who adores his white father. His father,JB, comes to visit his Indian wife and family often, and Hawk never realizes that his father has a white family other than Hawk's Indian mother and sister.

Eventually, forced to live in his father's world as the supposed adopted son of his father's ranch overseer, Hawk realizes that even though his father has provided for him financially, he is not to become a part of his father's white family. While everyone on the ranch realizes that Hawk is JB's son, he is treated as an outcast and despised by JB's white wife and son.

What a story! I just wish I could forget it, so I could read it again.
