When I first put this CD in my player, I didn't know what to expect. I heard the skills of Mars Ill, Ill Harmonics and the Tunnel Rat Sev Static ( all members of the super-group DS5) but I had not heard any of the other members. I flip open the jacket and saw 8 of the nine members with a caucasion complexion was very skeptical of what kind of music these kats were going to bring. As the first track played, a brief intro to get the audience ready, I sat back, took a deep breath and made sure that the reciept for the CD was available in case I need my money back.

To say that these kats are dope, nice, phat or any other hip-hop adjective used to describe skilled MC's would be an understatement. These dudes flipped word play that would have Toni Morrison and most Baptist preachers runaway scared. The 2nd cut, which is the first song, provides the listener with a verbal pictorial of all of the members (Soulheir the Manchild, Freddie Bruno, Listener, Sev Static, The Recon, Sintax "The Terrific", Playdough, Stu Dent, and MC Fong) capabilities and abilities to bless the microphone. From then on, it just gets better with Beat Rabbi and DJ Dust providing most of the production and scratching.

Christ has definetly anointed and appointed these men of God to spread a message that hip-hop is going to change according to His standards and He is going to use them, along with countless others, to change the messages, images, values and wackness that Hip-Hop has incorporated and demonstrated.

Cop this CD and be blessed and look out for more out of DS5 and Uprok Records. Holla.

Living in Columbus, Ohio, it's hard to find music that doesn't talk about sex, cars, guns, women, gold chains etc. It's also hard to find that real hip-hop with good beats, good lyrical flow and good content. Thank God for DeepSpace5! If this album wasn't at a listening station in Virgin Records I probably would have never heard it! Now I'm hooked to the entire Uprock label. This group of MC's are ridiculous! The Listener, Playdough, Freddie Bruno, Sev Statik, Soulheir the Manchild, DJ Dust, etc. have raised the bar for MC's everywhere. The style of beats are unique, each MC's rhyme style is unique. I actually listened to this CD exclusively for a month - it's that good. Hip-hop heads need to check all of these artists on the Uprock/DeepSpace5 label.

Ok, I just recently got into the underground rap scene, had to escape bad words and images. I have to say that this album is a cd that reminds me why I gave up mainstream hip hop. All the beats on this album are tight, there really are no weak beats at all, and with some super talented emcees spitting over them you just can't go wrong. Speaking of Deepspace 5's rappers let me break that down: they are all skilled lyricly and their voices are great sounding. These guys know how to rhyme. Yes, if you're wondering, this is a christian cd, but not every word, every verse, every song is about God or Christ. Which is good, but still there's alot of focus on Christ which is also good. Do yourself a favor and pick this up.

When you pick up an album and it is just ok the first time you listen to it, you may have to listen again. By the second time it is catchy and fun. By the 3rd time if it starts to get old then it may have no depth to the music and no staying power, it quickly grows old and grows dust on your CD rack.
If the music has any depth it may not come at you like a freight train and knock you off your feet. But with depth comes longevity. This album has depth not only of great beats but lyrics that can be searched time and time again. The more that I listened to this album the higher it climed on my personal favorite list. It has reached #1 and has been there since shortly after I bought. If you are looking for Christian or non-Christian hip-hop you need this album. I recomend this album to all hip hop fans young and old.

And let me tell you, it was well worth it :) I've been a fan of underground Christian rap for a while now, and I was glad to hear that the old deepspace5 crew was finally getting together to make their first full-length effort. Let me tell you, it was well worth the wait. Some groups represented in this effort are Labklik, Mars ILL, Phonetic Composition, thePride (former group of Mars ILL), Ill Harmonics, and a few new solo MCs and DJs make for one tight, tight, tight album :)

Though it would have been awesome to hear the second half of Lablik on Night/Day, I was relieved to at least hear that Ill Trip wasn't hurt in the car crash that prevented him from joining the rest of the group for recording. However, his counterpart Listener more than made up for his absence, jumping in on every single track but one. Man, Dan's lyrical and verbal skills were displayed probably better than on any previous work. Just listen to his verse on "F-Words" and tell me this guy isn't the most inventive rapper on the Christian scene!

Don't even get me started on the beats! DJ Dust (Mars ILL) is a freakin' genius! Rarely have I heard so many original background beats since his last produced album "Raw Material". Beat Rabbi's tracks weren't that bad, especially his human-beat box talents in "Close Captioned".

One new MC that caught my attention was Freddie Bruno. This guy has one of the best voices in rap today. Be sure to grab a listen to his solo CD coming out on April 23rd!

Man, if you get one Christian rap album this year, or even in your life, make sure it's deepspace5 - The Night We Called It A Day!

this is a must have for fans of the DS5 crew and for fans of DJ dust's unique beats. i've listened to this one over and over and it's never gotten old. it's deep, reflective, catchy, and bangin. overall, this one is more well-rounded and solid than "Unique Just Like Everyone Else" and "Deepspacesoul", which are both good. as manchild says, "don't sleep."

This album is great, a classic. One of the best I've heard actually. I doubt i'll ever at all depart with it. But please do avoid their new "Deepscape5oul" album if you're looking for more Night-Day material.

When you take several good emcees and beatmakers and put them together, one of two things is going to happen. The result that occurs most often is that egos get in the way and the result is less than it could have been. There are numerous examples of this. "The Night We Called it a Day," however, shows what SHOULD happen when that much talent joins together for a common cause.

First thing that I noticed on this project was that it was definitely not a democracy. Soulheir, Listener and Playdough carried the most weight on the album. At least two of them appear on all but two of the 15 tracks (not counting the humourous MC Fong freestyle). Again, with more selfish artists, that could have been detrimental, but here it works. It provides an anchor of sorts.

The tracks are all well made, with DJ Dust, Beat Rabbi, Playdough and Freddie Bruno all chipping in fresh beats. The rhymes are dope too, with some stuff that just bogs my mind thinking about the creativity. Check out "Elementary," "Stick This in Your Ear," (especially Listener's verse) "F-Words," and "Murder Creek" for but a few examples.

I hate using the term "Christian hip hop" but nevertheless I will. Anyone who says that Christian hip hop is bad obviously hasn't listened to any in around 10 years. Deepspace 5 is a super crew on par with anything that the rest of the world can produce. Pick up "The Night We Called it a Day" and they'll tell you where to stick it.

if you enjoy listening to the incredibly stupid music created by the mainstream media puppets (50 cent, etc...), then i doubt you will enjoy this album. if you are open minded, then i suggest getting this album. conscience lyricism, with nice productions.

i give it a 4.5/5.
