5.0 out of 5 stars One Night with the Wealthy Rancher
Summer Martindale is working as a social worker at a women's shelter in her hometown and runs into a man from her past Darrius Franklin who not only saved her from a abusive former financee but the one man she fell in love with completely. The problem was she believed that he only bedded her on a bet or so she was told by his former partner when he worked in law...

3.0 out of 5 stars One Night with the Wealthy Ranger
This was a good story however, I felt it was incomplete! Darius was investigating a fire and we never found out what really happened and he found a discrepancy in the TCC accounts which I thought it meant someone was embezzling funds through the shelter which was also never addressed. There should be a follow up to this story.

Summer Martindale is working as a social worker at a women's shelter in her hometown and runs into a man from her past Darrius Franklin who not only saved her from a abusive former financee but the one man she fell in love with completely. The problem was she believed that he only bedded her on a bet or so she was told by his former partner when he worked in law enforcement. She left town and went to college and came back to her hometown to help women that are going through what she went through in her past. He lives there now and has become a wealthy rancher and has become a member of the Texas Cattlemen Club who also raised the funds for the shelter. He had left town when his brother was in a bad accident to tend to his brother and when he came back was told by his former partner who had a low opinion of women that Summer has left town with a wealthy older man because she was a gold digger. Darrius is still attracted to her but fights the feelings because he thinks she is a gold digger. When her ex gets out of jail and threatens her life again, he steps in to protect her like he did 7 years ago. You will have to read the book to find out how this ends and it will be well worth the read. Another great book by Brenda Jackson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, What A Night! Indeed, One To Remember!, March 5, 2010

Darius never expected to see Summer Martindale again -- especially after that one night several years ago -- a night that he has tried to forget but cannot. Because of lies by someone thought to be a friend and mistrust on both Darius' and Summer's part, they missed out on time that should have been spent together. However, the old cliche that states "Misery loves company" worked in this case to keep them apart. That is until Summer came to town where Darius is now living and what they both thought was long buried and forgotten, rose up again.

Brenda Jackson fans, this is yet another great book by Ms. Jackson. One of the Silhouette Desire's series and part of the Texas Cattleman's Club. This was the second book in the "Maverick County Series." I love how Ms. Jackson along with the first author of the book and the others in the six book series tie the storyline and keep it flowing. Not only are the stories about love and romance, but also mystery and intrigue. The authors have a way of writing their part of the story that makes the readers want to know what happens in the end and cannot wait to read the other books.

Although this was not about a Westmoreland or Madarius man, those men we have grown to know and love, it was about a fine man -- Darius Foster -- who can definitely hold his own.

Keep up the good work, Ms. Jackson and I am looking forward to "Spontaneous" coming soon in the Harlequin Blaze issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, August 27, 2009
This review is from: One Night with the Wealthy Rancher (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is Book 2 in a series of books by six authors. After reading Book 1 and enjoying it, I couldn't wait to read this one and was not disappointed. Trust and miscommunication destroyed what could have been a great love affair and it took 7 years before the truth was brought to light. The characters made you want them to discover the truth so they could be together again and no one does passion like Brenda Jackson. It was hot and steamy - just the kind of story you could savor. I didn't feel like it was rushed, in fact I suggest you read the books in the series to understand the plot since it is a continuing plot with all 6 books. But still, even standing alone I felt this book delivered a good and passionate love story. I am now reading Book 3 in the series and enjoying that as well. Now I'm anxious to know who's behind the fire.

Brenda has a way of telling a story that causes the temperature to rise. As in all here novels, this story is well penned with all the right twists and turns to get you there. Love it.

First I will say that I am a fan of BJ, but not this book. I get the impression there was attempt to make a deadline. It also seemed that there was attempts to fill space because there were multiple repeats of the same information throughout the book. The book touched on several investigations that went without being solved. Who started the fires???? Who was embezzling the money???? Hard to believe you start a story line and not complete it when there was so much other wasted space with the repetitious information. The chemistry never really developed with the main characters either.

2.0 out of 5 stars not enough story, June 1, 2011
By
i must say, i really enjoyed the two lovers lives in this story and even how rea a everyday they where...But this story lacks more story! as the plot starts up with what could have been a twist the story is over. this could have been a short tale and it is not worth the three bucks, a dollar maybe. Not her bestwork.
