5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Listen to What Pitchfork Says..., October 8, 2007
This review is from: Night at the Ritz (Audio CD)
Pitchfork gave this record a 6.5. I say they're a bunch of hipster doofuses.

Probably one of the best records of 2007, Chicago quintet OFFICE delivers a highly danceable record that is distinctly indie pop that shimmers like a polished diamond.

Contrary to popular belief, OFFICE is not a play on the show "The Office" {Masson says he got the name from a shoe store in the UK while living there in 2000, more than a year before the show's debut}.

Many followers of the band in the early years will note that this record is almost essentially a "compilation album" or almost a "greatest hits" of the band's past releases {which are mostly demos and original versions of the songs that Masson recorded in his apartment}, the most notable one being 2005's self-released Q&A. Other tracks come from The Ice Tea Boys and The Lemonade Girls as well as Glass Corvette.

The band signed onto James Iha's indie label, Scratchie Records nearly a year ago and since then have gained a notable success at SXSW and have a strong fanbase in Chicago, IL as well as garnering many more across the country.

See one of their shows before they become superstars and ticket prices soar.

4.0 out of 5 stars underrated, October 21, 2007
This review is from: Night at the Ritz (Audio CD)
i don't know a whole lot about this band except that one of the members went to the same grade school as me and that's how i found out about them. i find the music fun, catchy, clever and GOOD. sure, good seems like a totally trite word but i really think it's true. i also like how every song on this album seems to flow into the next. not a lot of bands can do that or do it well. you can just sit there and listen to the whole thing in one sitting and not be bored. i highly recommend this album if you want some good background music to play at a party, something to listen to on the train or if you want to act like a complete music snob around your friends. any way, you win.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best of 07, July 20, 2009

As the title says this is one of the best Cd's of 2007. This past weekend my girlfriend and I went to Northen MI, and we listened to this CD the whole week-end. She is not a fan of this type of music, but LOVED this album. The only sad part is not enough people know about this band. I was familiar with Possibilities (which is still my fav) but there is not one song I do not like. Q & A is wonderful as well. This is a must have for any music lover, the album is just simply brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting!, August 6, 2008
This review is from: Night at the Ritz (Audio CD)
Another high caliber act out of Chicago, Office nail it on their first major release. The songs on this album are extremely addicting, much the same way as a New Pornographers album. The future will hopefully prove to be productive for them as they continue to gain exposure and recognition. They just played Lollapalooza- although their set was delayed and rescheduled due to the Weakerthens canceling. They then had to go up against the upstart Whigs on opposite ends of the festival grounds at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super great!, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Night at the Ritz (Audio CD)
I had no idea what to expect from this release just that reviews I had read were quite favourable. Well, it was excellent from beginning to end! The volume button kept being pushed louder! By the time it was over, I had to play it again and it was even better at full jamming volume! Do yourself a favour and discover the Office!!! Definitely one of the best hidden gems of 2007, like Alice Smith!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice surprise., June 12, 2008
This review is from: Night at the Ritz (Audio CD)
A very FUN, high-energy dance pop record. Vocals are not great, although the lyrics are inspired. This is frenetic (in a good way) head-bobbing music. I listened all the way through and was rewarded with a smile. Highlights include Oh My, Wound Up, Big Bang Jump, and Possibilities. The last 5 songs (besides Possibilities) pale when compared with the rest, but still a very likable cd.
