When he arrives to the destination, he finds the place under attack and rescues a young "nun" named Simone Derien. Together, they set out to retrieve the stolen scroll, which each party having their own directives on what to do once the scroll has been recovered.
When King Richard loses contact with Korvel, he dispatches Gabriel Seran to rescue Korvel. That automatically includes Nicola Jefferson, Gabe's sykgenis (life companion--see Night Lost: A Novel of the Darkyn), a holy relic recovery expert. We see here that Nic is still struggling with her identity as kyn. She is still recovering from being tortured by a kyn, whereas Gab is still recovering from being tortured by humans. I was disappointed in that she still seemed self absorbed and secretive as I remember. She wasn't one of my favorite heroines. But I do always enjoy her sarcastic retorts regarding Richard Tremayne.
This book revealed the formation of obligation and service of Korvel as a seneschal to Richard. It also reveals Korvel's upbringing as well as Simone's. They were quite turbulent, so perhaps that is why they bonded so well together. Korvel and Simone's relationship reminded me a lot of Valentin & Lily's relationship in ...Read more ›

This was an action packed paranormal romance with mythical stakes. Both characters are strong and fiercely independent. They have been forged through sacrifice and severe suffering. So much that you want them to find some happiness. Both of their lives have only been duty to their lord or family. Neither has had the freedom to live each of their lives. The villain in this story is utterly ruthless and devious. He is jealous of Simone and wants her to suffer.Read more ›

The first Lords of the Darkyn romantic urban fantasy is a great entry inside the magnificent mythological world of Lynn Viehl. The storyline is fast-paced from the first assassination attempt until the final confrontation as readers will wonder whether Simone will complete the mission as ordered. Fast-paced, fans will appreciate the opening act in the new trilogy due to the strong protagonists who make the Viehl realm exciting to visit.

This story continues the Darkyn saga and is a fascinating addition to the series. I love them all and re-read them at least once a year.Published 5 months ago by kitty petre
I could probably say they make this into a movie or never ending series but then they would change things around and damage the story. Loved reading this story. Read morePublished 6 months ago by JaimeIsaac
It is a good story and entertaining. There are some new concepts, but there is too much wasted on the sexual events and not enough on explaining aspects of the story. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Michael K. Lamb

I was happy to see Korvel's story because he always seemed to get the bad end. I was also happy that he got a strong heroine but I wanted him to be a bit more commanding. Read morePublished on April 2, 2013 by Whatshernamit
