Book Description

Aiden Afflack (a vampire) is as charming, sexy and easy-going as he is gorgeous. Unless you happen to be a rogue vampire, in which case he’s apt to be the last thing you see. Sam Shea is a wildly successful nature photographer whose prescient dreams lead her to some of the world’s most turbulent, awe-inspiring weather phenomena.

When their paths cross and Aiden discovers that his proximity to Sam warps her psychic power, causing her to hone in on vampire violence instead of violent weather, he knows he’s found a priceless tool in his fight to rid the world of rogues.

Sam has a deep-rooted aversion to having her powers exploited, but once her eyes have been opened to the lives she can help save, she can’t withhold her cooperation. But she can deny Aiden the other thing he wants from her, which makes her unique among women. And absolutely irresistible to Aiden!

5.0 out of 5 stars A guilty pleasure and a steamy romance! October 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having enjoyed "The Merzetti Effect," I recently indulged in a guilty pleasure. I read the sequel, "Nightfall," and enjoyed every minute! Norah Wilson is such a talented writer that her readers are never disappointed. This book stands on its own, giving the reader enough information about the previous story to satisfy, but not spoiling the read if you choose to go back and read the first novel. They are both that good!

Anyone who relishes a good "vampire" love story will enjoy reading about the sexy vampire, Aiden Afflack. As a vampire Aiden indulges in "consensual" feeding during sex, but he's also a successful vampire hunter--out to stop rogue vampires from killing innocent victims. When Sam Shea photographs a real vampire attack, she's thrust into a deadly battle between vampires. Sam's a psychic whose vivid dreams lead her to dangerous places before an event takes place. She makes her living capturing dramatic shots of lightning and twisters. Suddenly her dreams direct her to the sites of vampire attacks. Aiden believes she could lead him to victims before an attack, and he's determined to stop deadly predators. Will Sam risk her life to save innocents? Does she dare trust Aiden, an admitted vampire who makes her blood tingle? She's curious and tempted by the attraction, but she's cautious.

If you're tired of gory vampire stories and relish a steamy romance, you must read this book. There's plenty of suspense and danger, but Sam's not a delicate damsel in distress. She's gutsy and smart. Aiden is not a weak-willed parasite who feeds on society; he deliberately decided to become a vampire to gain the strength to kill them. Together Sam and Aiden could become a team that strikes fear in their enemies. Can they escape the group of evil vampires who decide to track them down? Read this book and enjoy a guilty pleasure of your own. You won't be sorry.

I still remember my first Norah Wilson with the fondest memories. The Merzetti Effect, her first book in The Vampire Romance series is one I still recall at the oddest moments, the hero Delano Bowen one of my utmost favorite heroes and needless it is to say that I have been awaiting eagerly for the second book of the series which turns out to be Nightfall.

Nightfall tells the story of Dr. Delano Bowen's most trusted friend and vampire hunter Aiden Afflack. Aiden, a vampire himself has made it his lifelong mission to hunt and kill rogue vampires who prey on weak humans, who feeds on their helplessness to boost whatever high it is that they get from preying on the weak.

Samantha Shea is a photographer; the type who captures the beauty that is nature in its most violent forms. Quite accidentally Sam's unerring visions that leads her to the freakish happenstances of nature collides with that of Aiden's presence alerting her to rogue vampire activities which puts her in the path of the too sexy for his own good Aiden.

When Aiden finds out that Sam has an innate ability which lets her hone in on rogue vampires, Aiden finds himself striking a bargain with the woman whose photographs adorn all his properties in the various parts of the world to help him and his mentor in their quest to prevent the nefarious activities of vampires who go rogue.

From the very first moment that Sam lays eyes on Aiden, she can't deny the powerful lure that the sexy vampire is on all her senses. Though Sam would like nothing more than to bury her head in the sand and forget that Aiden and what he does exists, the inherent goodness deep inside of her doesn't allow her to stand aside whilst she has the ability to do something to help.

Aiden has never found himself at the receiving end of a woman who has ever been able to say no to his charms ever since he embraced vampirism more than a century back. But in Sam, Aiden finds a woman who is helplessly drawn to him as he is to her and yet draws on that inner strength to say no until she is well and ready to surrender. Being never one to back down from a challenge and because Sam intrigues him in a way that no woman has in a long, long time, Aiden finds himself in a game of seduction that proves to be as alluring for the reader as it is for Sam.

Aiden and Sam's story is quite different from The Merzetti Effect in the sense that it is less intense in nature. Aiden though a vampire and a hunter of his own species is a pretty charming guy with a heart that believes that the choices he had made which had turned him a vampire are ones that he should be ashamed of, which makes him tortured enough to be that more alluring.

Aiden and Sam together is a heartwarming combination. They tend to have the best conversations and I say this because through each and every single one of them, I found a reason to smile and be completely immersed in their banter even through the most hair raising moments of the story.

Sam's character once again proves how Norah ALWAYS manages to deliver heroines who are so easy to fall in love with right from the very start. The way Sam admits her growing attraction to Aiden without being all coy about it, and how she gives all of herself to him when she realizes the error of her ways were facets of her character that I fell so much in love with.

The romance and attraction between Aiden and Sam which starts out with the I-must-have-you-now type of lust and transforms into a love so tender and beautiful towards the end was one of the best aspects of the story. Though Norah does introduce us to a couple more intriguing characters about whom I would LOVE to know more of, together with the tough and sexy Eli Grayson, sadly there is no indication as to whose story she would publish next in this series.

Though Nightfall didn't turn out to be as fantastic as the first book which still remains my favorite, I still enjoyed this vampire romance immensely and would recommend this to fans of Norah Wilson and fans of vampire romances featuring a sinfully sexy vampire hero who just makes your toes curl in anticipation whenever he is around!

A romance that flows smoothly and is beautiful in its sensuality, Nightfall is a novel that once again proves Norah's ability to never fail in delivering exactly what the reader wants!

After having read The Merzetti Effect I wrote a review and finished it stating that "Even though I had never read any vampire stories, I had just read A Discovery of Witches, and enjoyed it enormously. Norah Wilson is also right on target with The Merzetti Effect! It is now on to Nightfall, but I will not stay up until 3:30AM, as I did with the previous one!

Norah Wilson got me hooked. She knows how to create and develop a plot - suspenseful, intriguing, genuine, unpredictable - with credible characters (yes, even the vampires!) She has given me many hours of delightful and intelligent reading. I hope to get many more!" I went on to read Nightfall.

After some time, I read and excerpt of The Merzetti Effect and had to go back and reread it. And the same went for Nightfall. I appreciated both more the second time, and I realized that I had not liked Nightfall as much as The Merzetti Effect the first time I read it. But the second time I could see more, and I truly liked it as much as the first one. It also helped that both Delano and Ainsley are in this novel too. I was missing them! They play an important role towards the end. And, speaking about the end, I immediately linked it to an Italian film, Cinema Paradiso. It is breathtaking, and parallels the action of the film in a different, yet similar, manner. This is enough for me to applaud Norah Wilson, and thank her for what she offered us in Nightfall, an outstanding novel with an even more outstanding end!

More About the Author

The tenth of eleven children, I had to do something to distinguish myself. That thing turned out to be writing.

One of the coolest things that ever happened to me was finalling in RWA's Golden Heart contest for unpublished romance writers in 2001. I went on to do it again in 2002 and 2003.

Another cool thing: winning the 2003 New Voice in Romance contest sponsored by Dorchester Publishing and Romantic Times Magazine. My contest-winning story went on to be published by Dorchester.

A *super* cool thing: the revolutionizing of reading habits by Kindle and other eReaders. That development allowed me to publish my romantic suspense stories that didn't quite fit for traditional publishers, but which have been very well received by readers. Yay, Amazon!

I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, with my husband, two YA kids, five rats and a Rotti-Lab cross.
