5.0 out of 5 stars Young, Talented and Destined to Follow her Heart, June 16, 2010
Nineteen-year-old Amanda lives with her brother Henry and his wife Nan. Henry and Nan have a nine-year-old son, who is away at boarding school. Nan is kind of a resentful person, as Henry had been in a race car accident years ago and as a result she's had to give up her singing career to help support them. The family all work in the small hotel they own and they are finally getting their heads above water.

Amanda, like her sister-in-law, has a fine voice and she has distinguished herself in the school choir, so much so that she's been noticed by famous composer Jerome Leydon, who comes to hear her sing. Then he recommends that she study with the master of the town's church choir, Dr. Lewis Elsworth. And it just so happens that Jerome and Lewis had been to school together and are kind of rivals.

A couple years later Jerome comes by and after hearing Amanda sing he thinks she is ready for the big time, however Lewis thinks she needs more training. Meanwhile Amanda has been keeping her training secret from Nan, because she doesn't know how to explain to her sister-in-law that she's seeking a career in the very field she'd had to give up to help support the family.

This excellent romance was written way back in 1980, the year of my birth and I must tell you that I think it's one of the better ones. I particularly liked it, because Ms. Burcell kept us guessing for awhile about which man was going to win Amanda's heart. If you can find this classic, you certainly won't be disappointed.
