This album was one of the first Randy Crawford I ever had and it was on cassette, so I was devasteated when the tape finally died. Luckily this 1983 album has been put on CD. It opens with the very upbeat "Nightline," which charted #91 on U.S. R&B, #51 Singles Chart, #19 Top 40, #15 Top 20, along with being the title track of the album. I love the words and melody of the upbeat "Living On The Outside." Randy has the type of voice that can sing anything well, be it ballards or uptempo tunes, however "Why" is classic Randy Crawford and simply stated, is a beautiful song with a great melody and moving words. "Bottom Line" is another catchy tune with a message and the words say it all. "In Real Life" is another one of my favorite ballards on this CD which really speaks to how life really is. "Happy Feet" is an uptempo tune that makes you feel just that, "happy". "This 'Ole Heart Of Mine" can be considered a mid-tempo song that makes you appreciate Randy's voice and what she can do with a mediocre song. The funky yet slightly rock infused "Lift Me Up" has tight vocals and instrumentation which makes it a winner in my books. "Ain't No Foolin'" is another deep ballard that only Randy's distinct voice could make memorable. "Go On And Live It Up" is another favorite of mine on this CD and it ends the album on a hopeful upbeat; just enjoy life no matter what!!
Randy Crawford is another vocalist with a splendid songbird like voice, who never received major commercial succes.... for whatever reason, more than likely record business politics. She has a tremendous following in Europe and tours all the time. Unfortunately for us we are stuck with Rhiana, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. I have many of Randy Crawford's albums in my collection, but this one has always stood out. Despite the fact that there are no extensive liner notes, but if you really enjoy listening to a vocalist who sings excellent music filled with passion, joy and a message, then you should add the timeless Miss Randy Crawford's "Nightline" to your collection.

When I was in High School, this album took me to levels so high. This has got to be, her greatest work. From Nightline to Live it Up.....no one does it better than Randy
