Wow! How addictive! They really did a great job with this game on pretty much all aspects.

The animation is really great. Though it is obviously computer generated graphics, it looks like the same stop motion models in the movie. It really makes you feel like you are in the movie. There is one level where the scenery is completely black and white. This totally reminds me of something out of an Edward Gorey book (a big influence of Tim Burton). It was an awesome level to play.

The story is really creative and cute. Before playing the game, my expectations weren't that high. I was a little if-ey on the fact that the whole game was Oogy getting revenge. I was expecting it to be a bit of a sellout, unoriginal and cheesy. However, they did a great job with the storyline. The writers for the game stayed so true to the `feel' of the movie. They totally captured the same essence. Basically, Jack leaves Halloween Town for a while and when he comes back the town is abandoned. It turns out that when he was gone, Lock, Shock and Barrel helped revive Oogy. Oogy then developes a plan to take over all the holidays. It is up to Jack to stop him from messing up all of the holidays, armed pretty much only with his Soul Robber (a weapon that Dr Feinkelstein gave him).

The Soul Robber is fun but a tad disappointing. I feel like there was little skill and planning involved in using it. I think there could have been more combinations and stuff. I found little use for the pumpkin Jack and Santa Jack aside from burning barricades and getting ghosts out of barrels. I wish there were more things I could have done with them.

Not only do you kill a lot of mobs etc., but there are puzzles and secret areas in the game. Viewing the movie actually does payoff as there is a bit of trivia from Corps Kid that pays you some money.

I thought the camera angles and flow were really cool. The camera angels were fixed so you didn't have a lot of free reign to look around. This took some getting used to at first, but was fine once I did.

The controls were pretty simple for the most part. It didn't take very long to get used to them at all.

The music throughout the game is all from the movie. I love the music from the movie so naturally I love hearing it in the game, but you do hear it repetitively while playing, so it will get stuck in your head when you're not playing it. Just like the movie, singing plays a large role in the game. In fact, it even plays a role while fighting. If you collect enough musical notes while fighting a boss, then you go into this sort of bonus fighting mode. The voice acting was superb as well. They got several of the original voice actors from the movie; and the ones that were not from the movie sound very close to the originals.

I think this is a great game for fans of the movie to get. It stays very true to the movie and just feels like a continuation of it. You really get the feeling you are in Halloween town fighting as Jack. The game does get a bit redundant at times, but overall it's pretty awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soul Robber!, November 10, 2005

If you are a fan of the movie, then this game is for you. The storyline sticks to the movie and you'll see all of the main characters pop up at one point or another. Gameplay is fun and can be challenging at times with a mixture of fighting and puzzle solving. The game is straightforward and flows smoothly from one scenario to the next.

There are a few flaws in the game though, that really detract from the gameplay overall. The music, also (for the most part) from the movie, can be a bit repetitive as can the character comments. The camera is fixed so you are not able to look around, which can be a bit frustrating at times, especially when the scenery is blocking the action.

You can agitate enemies to gain bonus points by slapping the soul robber (the main weapon) to the ground, this is a huge flaw because the camera zooms in on Jack and you can't see anything around him, which usually leads to a swipe or two from an enemy. Use of the soul robber also ilicits an announcement of "Soul Robber!" EVERY SINGLE TIME you use it, which is just stupid if you ask me and quite irritating. Also, the soul robber could have some more combo attacks since it is the weapon of choice throughout the game. The other character costumes, which come with other powers are used primarily for specific tasks and the soul robber can't be used with either alternate character form so you're stuck flame throwing (until your red souls quickly run out) or tossing presents and screeching "Merry Christmas" at everyone, which also has limited effect. The graphics are good but can be grainy in spots.

The voice work is excellent, with most of the original cast from the movie lending a hand. Being familiar with the original movie pays off with some trivia games thrown into the puzzle mix. Overall, it is a good game that seems well thought out and true to the original movie.

first of all the ambiance of the game is trully amazing it sticks very loyal to the movie. is the best videogame based on a movie in terms of scenarios, and the characters are very well crafted.
the game on the other hand have a few flaws like the camera it gets very frustrating at times, the map sometimes doesnt help at all in one of the latest stages.
the graphics are very good they could be better but they are good.
I took about 7 hours to finish it and the replay value is high due to the extras it have like change the clothes in jack and to get better your ranks from the stages.
overall the game is good with a few flaws but you would not be bored thats for sure. rent it first but if you are a fan of the movie buy it now you would not be desapointed.

I got this game for Christmas--now I'm not a serious gamer by any means at all, but I enjoyed playing it (I have only gotten to like the 3rd level so I guess I don't really know). The characters are lifelike and stick to the movie; one complaint I have is the camera is fixed so you can't see enemies approaching in certain areas. But that's just nitpicky. Overall, The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge is a MUST for game fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best game I have for my Xbox., May 31, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (Video Game)
I don't have a lot of original X-Box games, I'm more of a PS2 kinda guy. But the X-Box was my first gaming console, and this was my first game for it. So you could say this review is based on the fact it's my first, but it really isn't. This is a truely amazing underrated game.

For TNBC fans, this is an amazing treat. It's a sequel to the movie. True, MANY voice actors change are changed but story wise, it's really awesome. The plot goes, Oogie has been sewed back together by Lock Shock and Barrel. Jack left for quite a while to do some soul searching of some sorts (I don't think it's explained) but when he comes back, Oogie has completly taken over and now Jack has to come in and take his town back.

Fans of the movie may either love or hate the fact that *ALL* of the major songs in the film have returned, but with different lyrics (and in some cases different voice actors). In the regular battle music, it's "This is Halloween", and each boss battle has it's own song. So basically if you miss TNBC in any aspect, this is the game for you.

A LOT of games based off movies fail, because either the story is dry or the battle system is terrible. Well this game is great in both. Jack's weapon, as shown in the box art, is a Soul Robber, a rubber device Dr. Finklestein made for him to fight Oogie and his army. On his own Jack is fierce, and can do all sorts of tricks with that little green worm. It might take a while to level up everything, but that's the fun of RPG's, which is what this game is.

But don't get turned off if you think you'll get bored with Jack attacking with the soul robber all the time. OH NO NO NO NO, Jack can transform! I know right?! Amazing! And the cool part, which made me overjoyed as a TNBC fan, was his 2 alternate forms are from the movie. They are his Pumpkin King outfit (which looks like a scarecrow with a pumpkin head) and his Santa Suit. In Pumpkin King form, Jack can use fire. REALLY powerful fire. Some bosses can be destroyed in 4-5 hits if you're skilled enough to accomplish it. Santa Suit looks lame, but it isn't. It doesn't do "damage" persay, but it can stun, freeze, and confuse the enemy (all three of those are seperate presents). If you play in easy mode, you'll even get an additional present that makes you momintarily invinsible.

And lastly, which is by far my FAVORITE part of this game, is the thing you can do in boss battles. DDR. I'm not even kidding, this game has handheld DDR. Some say this is stupid, I love it. SO MUCH. It's only available in bosses (which is why I like replaying them all the time) and can deal HUGE damage to them. Jack gathers music notes during battle, and when the gauge is filled he begins a musical attack! It's PERFECT for TNBC, it REALLY IS!

Also, unlike A LOT of games, you really only need one save file on this game. Because at any point, you can replay ANY CHAPTER you want, whenever you want. This is how I can replay boss battles. It always annoyed me when I LOVED certain part of a game but couldn't replay it unless I started a new game. And replaying games gives you rewards, like outfits for Jack (not like Pumpkin King and Santa Suit, just basic outfits he can wear in normal form like Pajamas.)

I love this game so much. I've replayed all the chapters dozens of times and I can find nothing wrong with it. Maybe I have low standards, maybe I'm optomistic, but it's incredible. I think my work here is done, Oogie's Revenge by far the best Xbox game I have.
