5.0 out of 5 stars A Soundtrack that lives beyond the film, July 16, 2006

No-one can walk away from this film without being moved by this score- one of may all time favourites. The presence of this richly layered score is what made this such a strong successful film. I am edified by the absence of this composer on the otherwise brilliant Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Why??? Had Berstein scored this film it would have been a classic. Wherever you are mr Bernstein, your work here is absolutely inspiring, memorable.

5.0 out of 5 stars The soundtrack makes the movie scary..., September 15, 2006
This review is from: A Nightmare On Elm Street (Audio CD)
John Carpenter in the DVD Commentary for Halloween admits that Halloween wouldn't be scary if it weren't for the music and this is true for "A Nightmare On Elm Street" Soundtrack by Charles Bernstein. This is one of my favorite soundtracks. The soundtrack was recorded using synthesizers or keyboards. There is some electric guitar on some tracks but it's mostly synths. Most soundtracks from low budget horror movies were recorded this way to obviously save money. But just try to imagine the nightmare "Nancy" has at the school were "Freddy" is chasing her in the boiler room with out the music!!! It just wouldn't work! I'm glad this soundtrack has finally been re-released and remastered! It's a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly amazing treat for fans!, June 21, 2006
This review is from: A Nightmare On Elm Street (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is incredible. It contains every piece of music found in the film, with the exception of that played during Tina's chase. Also, every track is identical to what's found in the film, with the exception of the END of Nancy's chase during her nightmare in English class.
Any fan should buy this... it's priceless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nightmare on Elm Street 4.The music! 1988., March 3, 2005
This review is from: On Elm St.Pt.4 (Audio CD)
First off I though nightmare 4 was the 2nd best in the series. The music on this cd is alive with that 80's sound, but it's a shame that their are 4 songs from the movie missing from this soundtrack. The 4 missing songs are Nightmare by Tuesday Knight,Anything by Dramarama, A Billy idol song and one other one as well, but I can't remember the name.
1.Under the Night Stars(Performed by Sea Hags)(7/10)Straight ahead rock song, not bad!
2.Standing Over You(performed by The Angels from Angel City)7/10)Just as good as the first song.Another straight ahead rocker!
3.Don't be Afraid of your Dreams(performed by Go West)(10/10)I really like this one.Such a great ballad and the guitar solo in the middle soundS great.A very memorable song THAT PROVES THE 80'S HAD THE BEST MUSIC!
4.Back to the Wall(performed by Divinyls)(6/10)Not the best song, but still better than today's music.
5.My Way or the Highway(performed by Jimmy Davis and Junction)(7/10)Not bad, solid rocker.
6.Love Kills(performed by Vinnie Vincent Invasion)(10/10)Best song on here.Pure 80's metal at it's best,a great ballad!Love Kills!
7.Therapist(performed by Vigil)(5/10)Far from the greatest song on here.
8.Rip her to Shreds(performed by Blondie)(6/10)If you like Blondie you'll love this!
9.Angel(performed by Love/Hate)(7/10)This song was produced by Juan Croucier of RATT.Not a bad metal song, but not the best.
10.Resurrection(performed by Craig Safan(8/10)Instrumental piece. This was played in the junkyard scene when freddy came back to life.Very Errie sounding, but cool!
Overall if you love the 80's and love Nightmare 4,then pick this up it's very rare and really will grow on you after a while!
Freddy Lives,Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic!, October 30, 2007
By
This review is from: A Nightmare On Elm Street (Audio CD)
You couldn't ask for a better introduction to the man in the "dirty red and green sweater" than this. It's hard to imagine why Charles Bernstein didn't reprise this score in a later sequel. Along with the Nightmare theme, this captures the gritty essence of the 1984 film that to this day remains a classic.
