Editorial Reviews

This powerful film is based on actual events involving two killers who walked into a Las Cruces bowling alley and changed the lives of seven people and their families forever. Forced to the floor at gunpoint, the victims were shot multiple times, execution style. Left for dead in a burning building, one heroic girl was able to call for help. Twenty years later, the people of Las Cruces still seek justice with only two survivors remaining and the killers still on the loose.

Customer Reviews

Very emotional and compelling story.

I feel like this was no robbery, that it was a message to someone and that person knows what it was all about.
Carrol McLennan
While two black males were identified by one brave survivor, the murders/attacks have never been solved.

I know Audrey. I never asked her what had happened because I did not want to upset her. After seeing this movie I was devisated. I have a 3 year old daughter and 1 year old son. I got them and hugged them through all my tears. I hope that by spreading the word and seeing the composites that someone will come forth and give them closure. What they have been through and continue to go through is unspeakable. I can only hope that one day someone will have the courage to come forward with information that can put these monsters away. How can you shoot a 2 1/2 year old and live with yourself. Watch the movie and share with everyone. Its important to get this out. Charlie Minn has done a great job of keeping this in the limelight now it is up to us the Citizens to spread the word and get new leads. Please watch this film and share with everyone.

This isn't going to be like my usual reviews for a movie or a wrestling Pay Per View. This is a review for a documentary called A Nightmare In Cruces. I 1st heard of this story on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries back in 2000 or 2001 when I heard that little kids were killed I cannot yell what I said cause amazon wouldn't put my review up. Anyway these 2 loser SOB cowards took $5,000 & killed a 2 year old & 6 year old girl. Then they killed their father a 13 year old & they were killed for $5,000 & I also found out from the documentary that those 2 pricks set fire to the bowling alley. Basically what they did is they took this girl Melissia her friend Amy they took the cook Ida & then The Day Manager Stephanie held them in the office as they got the money a man named Steve Teran & his 2 Daughters showed at the worst possible time the Steve guy served in The National Gaurd & had aspirations of becoming a Cop. Steve Teran's Wife Audrey not only loses her Husband in 1 day but her 2 daughters Valerie who was only 2 & Paula who was only 6. I wonder if Mr Teran had been armed that day he could've been able to stop those 2 pos's. Steve Teran, Paula, Valerie, Melissia, Amy, Ida & Stepanie were all shot execution style & like I said the thugs took $5,000. There was still money in the Bowling Alley. The girl Melissia bleeding everywhere & bullets in her head calls 911 & The Dispatch Recordings just grab your attention. Ida, Stephanie & Melissia survived but Steve Teran his 2 daughters died & Valerie died at the hospital Audrey finds out that her Husband & 1 of her kids are dead & she goes to the hospital only to find out that Valerie her youngest had died. I mean not only did those 2 SOB's not only ruined the survivor's lives but the lives of other family members too.Read more ›

Documentary, really, which makes it so very heartbreaking. I hope it raises enough attention so that the perpetrators are found and brought to justice. It very clearly illustrates the long term impact to family and survivors of horrendous crime.

Long time crime documentary fan...so if you are at all into that genre than you should really give this film a try.

I gave it a 4 based largely on it's actual story. It's nicely told through bringing together original footage with brief reenactments, and then the narration by the actual people who were involved directly in event. It captures their heartbreak, loss, and tragedy on a level that is almost unbearable to watch at times, yet equally riveting and powerful when you do.

It didn't elevate past a 4 on my scale because of the film making and such...lacks a bunch here but I love documentaries for their story and information, not so much on how well the presentation of it was.

As I sit here writing this review with tears still in my eyes,I can't image someone killing anyone let alone children as cold bloodly as these animals did.
I feel like this was no robbery, that it was a message to someone and that person knows what it was all about. I too encourage everyone to watch this,to get it out to as many people as possible. The families and surviors need to know why,how the murders could hold a 2 year old child and shoot them in the forehead.

First of all, this movie is not a scripted "horror" film but instead a documentary ala DATELINE or 48 HOURS MYSTERY. Amazon should genre-class it as a documentary so as not to mislead its audience.
With that said, NIGHTMARE IN LAS CRUCES is a horrifying examination of the infamous massacre at a Las Cruces bowling alley in 1990. While two black males were identified by one brave survivor, the murders/attacks have never been solved.
Filmmaker Charles Minn chose to produce this film in an attempt to seek new clues and/or witnesses to help solve this horrible crime in which two innocent children, one aged 2 ½, were basically executed.
Minn interviews the survivors, policemen, medical examiners, friends, etc. to heartwrenching effect. One can't help but feel the pain of the survivors and the victims' friends and family.
My main concern is the film becomes redundant and almost voyeuristic. The film could have accomplished just as much thirty minutes shorter.
I do admire Minn's commitment to remind us of this senseless massacre, but sometimes less is more.
