5.0 out of 5 stars Author a Former Student of Mine
Although the title of Dr. Nicolai's book sounds negative, the book is full of excellent, positive suggestions and ideas for correcting the errors made in our country in the name of education. For it is not only the public schools who have, in some cases, led our students astray, but many private schools must take responsibility for our failure to attain outstanding...

1.0 out of 5 stars How to continue the nightmare
Nicolai's recommendations will continue the nightmare he describes. His favorite reference points are Bill O'Reilly, Bill Bennett, Sean Hannity, John Stossel, Chester Finn among others. His view is that kids are bored in school and the way to change that is for even more traditional curriculum. He recommends such outmoded practices as the 8 parts of speech and in one...

I high recommend parents of any student in our schools today to read and study this book. When parents realize how their children are being cheated, they will take a stronger, active role in demanding that their children receive a marvelous education from our wonderful country.
I'm very pround of Renato and his successful mission in using his teaching experiences and skills to offer remedies for the ills we see in our schools today. I have numerous nieces and nephews who are teachers today and have sent every one of them a copy of this book. They all tell me the exciting ideas it gave them.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is an act of courage meant to warn all parents, January 5, 2008
This review is from: The Nightmare That Is Public Education: An Exposé of What Really Happens in Public Schools (Paperback)
Every Parent of school age children should read without delay and use what is presented to them to better the school system in this nation.
I am someone who cares about children, and I know Renato Nicolai as a man of integrity and courage who ants more than anything to be a catalyst to help bring a higher level of disciplined education that will make this nation a better place to teach, to learn and to excel.
Without a doubt this is the most courageous and honorable presentation of the facts of todays school system and why we, as parents, must do what we can to foster the use of the author's recommendations if we are to secure a brighter future for our children and this once great nation of ours.

He recommends such outmoded practices as the 8 parts of speech and in one section cites a lesson on gerunds and appositives as good practice. No doubt, Nicolai wants brilliant teachers and exciting schools but he won't get it by his mixed-up philosophy of education and lack of understanding about learning.
