Book Description

October 26, 2010 Nightmare World (Book 2)
As Lucifer's plan to kick-start the Armageddon blossoms its wicked fruit, these 13 new tales of terror peer into the lives of those both immediately and distantly affected by his diabolical scheme! Including a ruthless yet unsuspecting TV executive, a conniving rock star wannabe, a desperate abused teenager, a pair of star-crossed Mafioso lovers, and even the world's last ultra-hero who must choose - staying with the love of his life while the world goes to Hell (literally), or go fight the Great Cthulhu in a desperate (and most likely futile) attempt to save the remnants of humanity from being destroyed.

More About the Author

Dirk Manning best known as the writer/creator of NIGHTMARE WORLD, TALES OF MR. RHEE, FARSEEKER and the "Write or Wrong" column at www.Newsarama.com in which he details his journey from a wannabe comicbook writer to his rise as a published, spotlighted, award-winning and generally well-liked writer who has worked with over two dozen artists and across the globe.

As for Dirk Manning himself, he was born nine days late and has been trying to make up for the lost time ever since. He loves life but hates ninjas. Cthulhu is his homeboy. He's got soul but he's not a soldier. His two main vices in life are obscure occult reference books and female heavy-metal singers. He fears the toilet monster. He's experienced at least one ghost first-hand but still doesnt quite believe in them... yet. He watches very little TV and is 100% drug-free. Dirk Manning hates it when people talk about themselves in third-person. He only smiles in the dark. He puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter" Dirk Manning fights the good fight and never surrenders. What's most telling about this dapper fellow, though, is how the Boogeyman checks under his bed for Dirk Manning every night before he goes to sleep.

Believe it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirk is a heavy hitter, June 20, 2011
This review is from: Nightmare World Volume 2: Leave The Light On (Paperback)
First of all, Dirk Manning rules. This guy is not only a cheese-chucking champion, a kissing-chicken champion, and a hat wearing s.o.b, he also writes comics. Who knew? But seriously, Nightmare World is incredible. I picked up the first two volumes from him at C2E2 2011 and haven't stopped enjoying them. The thing that really makes Nightmare World stand out is that each of these are great stand-alone stories. But when the readers takes a step back to look at the big picture, everything you read just hits that much harder. I personally cannot wait for volume three. Two thumbs way, way up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another volume of horror genius!, May 5, 2011
This review is from: Nightmare World Volume 2: Leave The Light On (Paperback)
Wow.

Mr. Dirk Manning (and his "friends") have hit another one out of the park with the second volume of this fantastic series.

If you're a fan of the horror genre, comic books, or just... awesomeness in general and you haven't picked this up, you don't know what you're missing and I recommend you do so NOW!

What's cool about "Nightmare World" is that while it remains largely in the horror vein, Manning shows off all sorts of storytelling skills here. We get splashes of the paranormal, social commentary, fantasy, apocalyptic fiction, Victorian literature, western, war story, and good ol' superhero books, all eerily connected to one another and all with that little tinge of scary in them.

More interested in the pretty pictures in yer comic books? Well, never have I seen more diverse styles of art come together. All are so deftly executed, so well done, and all come together to form a fantastic anthology. There's truly something for everyone to marvel at between the covers of this one, no matter what your preference in art stylings.

So, yeah... Much like volume one, I give this one my utmost recommendation. I've been thankful I stumbled across this series ever since I read the first page of it and once you try it, you will be, too.
