(REAL NAME)
I first came across Jack Conte on YouTube while searching for Radiohead's Exit Music (For a Film). Conte's cover of this song was very nicely done, and his trademark VideoSong showed him playing all the instruments that were in the song. Intrigued, I clicked on his channel and have not regretted it. Simply put, his music is amazing!

I immediately checked him out on his artist MySpace page and purchased this EP. To describe this CD, I would have to say that it is mostly The Postal Service-inspired, with a little Incubus thrown in. Conte self-produced this CD and provided the vocals as well as all the instruments.

There are a total of four songs. The EP starts out with "Starlight," a nice song that introduces the electronica direction of the album. The next song, "Yeah Yeah Yeah," is my personal favorite and Conte's most popular song on YouTube, winning Best Music Video - 2008 for the Alice 3-Minute Film Festival. The third song, "Tick Tock," starts off with an interesting drumbeat and progresses into a chorus of voices. "Unfrozen," the final song of the album, starts off slowly, builds intensity, and explodes into a flurry of musical instruments.

All in all, this album was very enjoyable and shows Conte's prowess as a musician and producer. Recently, Conte's music has taken a less electronica-inspired direction, and his next EP is out soon. I am eager to see his evolution as an artist, and I highly recommend that you check out his YouTube channel to see if his music suits your tastes. This was a very well done EP, and considering that this was his first one only increases my respect for him as a musician.

Great songwriting is great songwriting. If you like this EP, search for his YouTube account, as he often releases "video songs" which are just as good, if not better than the content on this album.
