This is a wonderful novel, by a little known author with a terrific level of talent. An evil, and dark power has flexed its muscles over the land of Tirror. 3.0 out of 5 stars Nightpool
I read Nightpool the other day and I love it! I had read the other books in this series before this one and I was so suprised that there was another one in the series. Nightpool is the first one. Then there's The Dragonbards and The Ivory Lyre. They are all great books and I hope she writes more.

This is a wonderful novel, by a little known author with a terrific level of talent. An evil, and dark power has flexed its muscles over the land of Tirror. The king of Auric is killed, but his son, Prince Tebriel manages to escape. He is protected by the animals that used to once co-exist peacefully with humans. The animals can no longer hide him however, from the dark forces that have inhabited Tirror, or from his destiny. Teb will look to the dragons who rule the skies.

This was a very quick read for me as it was tremendously enjoyable. I was moved by the author's description, and imagination. She developes an beautiful story that held my attention from beginning to end.

Hands down, one of the best written fantasy books I have ever read. It is not as dark as Jordan or even Tolkien and seems to lie more in the vein of the Narnia books, but the writting is sublime. I consider it one of the great tragedies of the fantasy genre that Shirley Rousseau Murphy is not better known.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly melodramatic, but good nonetheless., January 29, 1999

This review is from: Nightpool (Library Binding)
I'll admit that I'm biased--I like any book dealing with dragons. That goes double for one by an author who can write on the telepathic dragon/human link subject without sounding like a two-bit parody of Anne McCaffrey. And Shirley Rousseau Murphy has succeeded. My one complaint was the melodramatic nature of the characters-- the villains had no redeeming qualities, the heroes had very few faults. This detracted somewhat from the storyline of all three books in the trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beloved Story From My Childhood, December 7, 2008
I first found this book in a library resale shop when I was a child, and loved it. After reading the three books many times, I wrote to Ms. Murphy and asked if there would be a fourth book. She responded that there would be, entitled "The Dragon Council." Every few years I check to see if that book has materialized. It's been some 15 years since that letter, and I doubt such a book will ever appear. Still, the first three books are wonderful.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Nightpool (Unbound)
I found this in the school libray, and i was amazed! all other books didnt have enough action, most in which the character is weaker than a slug, while shirley gives it an edge that makes you want to read more. Tolkien, lewis, morris, ive never seen a better autor until i found this book on the dusty side of the shelves. its intresting, with lots of details, and a easy understandible plot with twists and turns that get your brain thinking. read this book its awsome.

4.0 out of 5 stars a review, February 11, 1999

Very good book. It did seem to drag on a little, the evil was evil, the good was good, and they fought each other. the author's descriptions were sometimes sketchy, but that can leave more to the imagination. Still, I am a dragon freak, it's a good book
