Product Description
The Dark Gift has brought Roshan DeLongpre a lifetime of bitter loneliness - until, by chance, he comes across a picture of Brenna Flanagan. There is something hauntingly familiar about her, something that compels him to travel into the past, save the beautiful witch from the stake, and bring her safely to his own time. Now, in the modern world, Brenna's seductive innocence and sense of wonder are utterly bewitching the once-weary vampire, blinding him to a growing danger. For there is one whose dark magic is strong...one who knows who they both are and won't stop till their powers are his...and they are nothing more than shadows through time...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Story That Combines, Time Travel, Vampires, And Witches!, March 12, 2005
Ms. Ashley's story "Night's Kiss" offers the reader a multiple feast of genre's that will appeal to almost every reader. There are vampires (our hero Roshan DeLongpre) a witch (our heroione Brenna Flanagan), time travel, and even a small amount of humor, and a contemporary setting.

Roshan has lived for centuries and he is tired of living alone. He is in the process of thinking about ending it all when he takes a walk about his house and browse's his library one more time. He finds a book that has the story of Brenna Flanagan a woman burned at the stake for witchcraft. He is drawn to Brenna in a way that he has not felt for another woman since the death of his first love. He can't get Brenna out of his mind. She haunts him even during his preternatural sleep. He decides to see if he can travel back in time to see if he can save Brenna from her fate. Will Brenna listen to him and allow herself to be saved and if she does will she finally find acceptance?

Brenna lives a quite life outside the village of Salem. She has been casting spells looking for her true love. When Roshan shows up in the dead of night seeming as if he is part of that night she is a fearful. When he begins to tell her things and show her things that are beyond what she is familar with she sends him away. What kind of magick would conjure such a man. When Roshan starts telling her of her future she is unsure what to do but when the villiage people come to take her away she finally believes Roshan and takes a chance and goes into the future with him. What comes after this is something not even Brenna could imagine. Roshan is captivated by seeing his world through Brenna's eyes. His jaded feeling begin to melt as each day passes with Brenna. Can these two people find love with each other and accpetance of what the other is?

Brenna and Roshan were wonderful characters and Ms. Ashley has taken the vampire storyline and added so much that this is a fresh and fun read. I laughed and cried. Roshan is such wonderful hero. Tortured, and sensual as well as tender! Ms. Ashley is one author I have no trouble recommending!

3.0 out of 5 stars This Kiss Has Some Suprises...., June 5, 2005
By L. J Lewis "Miss Amii" (Collierville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In the past I've had some very harsh words for Amanda Ashley. I've complained many times about her lack of awareness of the pedophilish elements of her vampire books with their sugar daddy vampire heroes and clueless barbie doll heroines. I've belly-ached about the barebones descriptions, characterization, and plot. At best, I find Ashley's work to mediocre, but I will give her credit where credit is due. This book really managed to suprise me in a good way. Admittedly, I skipped the book were she wrote about the Gerard Butler clone living under some sweet young lonely virgin's house, but if it contains any of the stronger elements of Night's Kiss I may have to dig it up.
Night Kiss features another one of Ashley's standard heroes this time baring the name Roshan DeLongspre (where does she get these names?). He's old, bored, and suicidal. On the night he finally decides to kill himself, he becomes facinated by an obsecure historical footnote in one of the books in his vast library. It tells the story of Brenna Flanagan, a beautiful young Irish woman who was burned at the stake in the early 1700's. He's capivated by her beauty, and decides to travel back in time and save her. He brings her back with him to the present, and they proceed to fall in love (although Roshan seems way more interested in her hymen than her gentle spirit). However, they are both stalked by sorcerer who seeks the secrets of immortality.
This is no timeless love story, but it makes for a decent fluff read. Roshan is bland for a vampire whose lived so long and the sub-plot about the sorcerer is about as scary as a toenail clipping. It's the heroine that makes this novel readable. You see the reason I've always found Ashley's work distasteful in past is because the love story was always about some girly-girl with Paris Hilton's body and a hamster's brain worshipfully adoring the much older vampire daddy figure. Love at its most girly, immature, and creepiest. Fortunately, Brenna is quite the spit-fire, a great change from the meek jelly-fish spined creatures who cowered if the hero so much as raised his voice. She's not a particularly deep character, but she's easy to sympathize with. I finished off this novel quickly, and while I have no great urge to visit it again in the future, I found it a pleasant read that is worth a look for fans of the sub-genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amanda Ashley does it again!, July 8, 2005
I personally don't see why people disliked this book. It may not be as good as her previous ones, but it is amazing in it's own way. The thought of a man refusing to let time stand in the way of him and his true love, is incredible.

It actually reminds me a lot of Somewhere in time. With a dark, lustful, and morbid twist, perhaps. but the story is the same isn't it? A man sees a picture of a beautiful woman, and goes through time to find her. I loved this story, because of it.

The romance is sizzling, and raw, like in most of Amanda's books. My personal favorite though is Embrace the Night and a Whisper of Eternity. But this is also an amazing read. If you're a die-hard fan of ms. Ashley's, then you won't be dissapointed.

However, if you are new to her work (and don't admire her all ready) this may seem unusual and strange for you, since you aren't fimiliar with her. And this book IS very Amanda Ashley. She wrote about vampires, aliens, cowboys, heroes. What will she do next?

I can't wait for her books to come out, because I know they'll be as amazing as the last. I strongly advise you to read this
