A Story That Combines, Time Travel, Vampires, And Witches!,
By
This review is from: Night's Kiss (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Ashley's story "Night's Kiss" offers the reader a multiple feast of genre's that will appeal to almost every reader. There are vampires (our hero Roshan DeLongpre) a witch (our heroione Brenna Flanagan), time travel, and even a small amount of humor, and a contemporary setting.
Roshan has lived for centuries and he is tired of living alone. He is in the process of thinking about ending it all when he takes a walk about his house and browse's his library one more time. He finds a book that has the story of Brenna Flanagan a woman burned at the stake for witchcraft. He is drawn to Brenna in a way that he has not felt for another woman since the death of his first love. He can't get Brenna out of his mind. She haunts him even during his preternatural sleep. He decides to see if he can travel back in time to see if he can save Brenna from her fate. Will Brenna listen to him and allow herself to be saved and if she does will she finally find acceptance? Brenna lives a quite life outside the village of Salem. She has been casting spells looking for her true love. When Roshan shows up in the dead of night seeming as if he is part of that night she is a fearful. When he begins to tell her things and show her things that are beyond what she is familar with she sends him away. What kind of magick would conjure such a man. When Roshan starts telling her of her future she is unsure what to do but when the villiage people come to take her away she finally believes Roshan and takes a chance and goes into the future with him. What comes after this is something not even Brenna could imagine. Roshan is captivated by seeing his world through Brenna's eyes. His jaded feeling begin to melt as each day passes with Brenna. Can these two people find love with each other and accpetance of what the other is? Brenna and Roshan were wonderful characters and Ms. Ashley has taken the vampire storyline and added so much that this is a fresh and fun read. I laughed and cried. Roshan is such wonderful hero. Tortured, and sensual as well as tender! Ms. Ashley is one author I have no trouble recommending! Official Reviewer for www.romancedesigns.com

This Kiss Has Some Suprises....,
By
This review is from: Night's Kiss (Mass Market Paperback)
In the past I've had some very harsh words for Amanda Ashley. I've complained many times about her lack of awareness of the pedophilish elements of her vampire books with their sugar daddy vampire heroes and clueless barbie doll heroines. I've belly-ached about the barebones descriptions, characterization, and plot. At best, I find Ashley's work to mediocre, but I will give her credit where credit is due. This book really managed to suprise me in a good way. Admittedly, I skipped the book were she wrote about the Gerard Butler clone living under some sweet young lonely virgin's house, but if it contains any of the stronger elements of Night's Kiss I may have to dig it up.
Night Kiss features another one of Ashley's standard heroes this time baring the name Roshan DeLongspre (where does she get these names?). He's old, bored, and suicidal. On the night he finally decides to kill himself, he becomes facinated by an obsecure historical footnote in one of the books in his vast library. It tells the story of Brenna Flanagan, a beautiful young Irish woman who was burned at the stake in the early 1700's. He's capivated by her beauty, and decides to travel back in time and save her. He brings her back with him to the present, and they proceed to fall in love (although Roshan seems way more interested in her hymen than her gentle spirit). However, they are both stalked by sorcerer who seeks the secrets of immortality. This is no timeless love story, but it makes for a decent fluff read. Roshan is bland for a vampire whose lived so long and the sub-plot about the sorcerer is about as scary as a toenail clipping. It's the heroine that makes this novel readable. You see the reason I've always found Ashley's work distasteful in past is because the love story was always about some girly-girl with Paris Hilton's body and a hamster's brain worshipfully adoring the much older vampire daddy figure. Love at its most girly, immature, and creepiest. Fortunately, Brenna is quite the spit-fire, a great change from the meek jelly-fish spined creatures who cowered if the hero so much as raised his voice. She's not a particularly deep character, but she's easy to sympathize with. I finished off this novel quickly, and while I have no great urge to visit it again in the future, I found it a pleasant read that is worth a look for fans of the sub-genre.

Amanda Ashley does it again!,
This review is from: Night's Kiss (Mass Market Paperback)
I personally don't see why people disliked this book. It may not be as good as her previous ones, but it is amazing in it's own way. The thought of a man refusing to let time stand in the way of him and his true love, is incredible.
It actually reminds me a lot of Somewhere in time. With a dark, lustful, and morbid twist, perhaps. but the story is the same isn't it? A man sees a picture of a beautiful woman, and goes through time to find her. I loved this story, because of it. The romance is sizzling, and raw, like in most of Amanda's books. My personal favorite though is Embrace the Night and a Whisper of Eternity. But this is also an amazing read. If you're a die-hard fan of ms. Ashley's, then you won't be dissapointed. However, if you are new to her work (and don't admire her all ready) this may seem unusual and strange for you, since you aren't fimiliar with her. And this book IS very Amanda Ashley. She wrote about vampires, aliens, cowboys, heroes. What will she do next? I can't wait for her books to come out, because I know they'll be as amazing as the last. I strongly advise you to read this

A vampire/witch Romance You'll Fall Madly In Love With,
This review is from: Night's Kiss (Mass Market Paperback)
I've never read before I picked up this book. This book showed me that reading was a very fascinating joy. It only took me about two days to read all of it. I could not, I repeat not put it down. I'm only fifteen years old, and I've finally discovered reading all because of Night's Kiss. It's a book so perfect, you can't explain it in words. I fell in love with this book. I also fell in love with the characters Roshan and Brenna. Amanda Ashley is my all-time favorite author. I've been reading like there's no tomorrow, because of all her books. I really recommend this book. And I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A classic vampire...and that was just one problem,
By
This review is from: Night's Kiss (Mass Market Paperback)
____Reading other reviews (which will give you details about the book), and the summary I thought this would be a very exciting story. A story with mystery, suspense, and maybe some steamy love scenes (optional but something I'd look forward to). But it dissappointed me very much.
____When you first read about Roshan he is the classic based vampire. Can't walk into the sun, can change into mist/light/wolf, and ect. And that was something that just turned me off the book making me want to put it down. After reading Stephanie Meyer's (sp might be off) Twilight I can never look at vampire stories in the same way. She put a such creativity in what vampires are. Though it's young adult if a fan of an amazing vamp story with new twists and romance then do read it. Though I do give Ms. Ashley credit for giving them the ability to transport. And that was probably the only thing I liked about Roshan. ___Another thing that bothered me was there was no mystery or suspense. Not that this book was in that genre, but when a summary tells you of a dark power growing ect, you'd expect that right? Wrong (atleast for me. The minute Brenna went and met certain characters in ana certain shop it was beyond obvious who was the villians once murders started taking place ect. Especially if the murder is trying to use vamp blood...well I won't spoil it. But let's put it this way that blood taking and injecting was something I remember watching in Dracula 2: the ascension. ___If your looking for a wonderful steamy sex scene. That is not the case in this book. O.O sorry to burst your bubble. But I must say it was tender and romantic. I'm really tough on novels that don't meet my standard. But the book is worth the read most definitely. Just if your expecting something new and not done quite a few times over then you'll find it dissappointing...Like I did.

Worth Reading Once,

***NOTE MY REVIEWS OFTEN CONTAIN SPOILERS***
In defense of this book I will say that the first time I read it I remember not being able to put it down, but that was also shortly after it was published in 2005 or 2006 so it's been a while since I first read this book. I don't know if my reading interests have changed or if I've become more jaded or what, but the second time around it definitely wasn't a page turner for me. Roshan is a vampire on the edge of suicide when he starts reading a book about an accused witch who was burned at the stake, the drawing of the woman captures him and he becomes obsessed with the notion of saving her. He used his powers to travel back in time and save the beautiful Brenna Flannagan. This time reading it the spark between the two characters just wasn't real for me. It was also very difficult for me to relate to the female lead because her though process was like a child almost rather than an adult woman. Another thin that just didn't' work for me is that Brenna didn't seem that surprised, impressed or scared about the differences between her time and ours. While Brenna is asserting her new found odd sort of independence in the 21st century she meets a coven a witches at a book store. Unlike her own form of witch craft these witches practice dark magic and are working to discover the secret to eternal life - the immortality of a vampire without any of the downfalls. Of course she doesn't know that when she meets them. I found it hard to believe the character didn't sense any of the darkness within her new friends and her unwavering trust in complete strangers after having almost been burned at the stake in her own time is highly unbelievable for me. Brenna also never seems to know what she wants and her decisions for the most part are made for her rather than by her, she spends most of her time reacting rather than acting and as a reader I find it hard to feel for a person like that. The book does have some very amusing scenes as well as it's share of exciting, dangerous and racy ones. Overall it's not a bad book, I just don't recommend reading it twice.

This book was a little too violent for my taste. The romance between the vampire and heroine was o.k., but I really did not like all the graphic details of experiments being done. I will not purchase any more in this series.

I've enjoyed reading Amanda Ashley. She's a good author. It's a Vampire romantic comedy and I've enjoyed it. If you don't like stories about Vampires, you won't like it. But otherwise, it's very good. I've read 4 books of hers already and can't wait for the rest.

I love all of Amanda Ashley's books, but I think that the "Night" books are by far the best. Roshaun and Brenna start the series off with their story. You'll fall in love with them and want to read about the rest of their family in the following books: Night's Touch, Night's Master, and Night's Pleasure.
