5.0 out of 5 stars A great tale from a great author
I first heard Emerian Rich's audio podcast version of her tale, NIGHT'S KNIGHTS. I was immediately hooked by the way she weaved the lives of the characters together and by the way she provided ALL of the voices for the characters. That takes a lot of guts and a lot of talent. Period. The story is dark in the right places, historical without being dry, sensual without...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's a good thing this book was free, because I wouldn't pay for it!
I have no idea why all the other reviewers gave this book 4 or 5 stars, unless they listened to the podcast instead of reading the actual book. Not having heard the podcast, I can't comment on it.

The book was poorly written, with the kind of typos that get past spell checkers on nearly every page. For instance, an unconscious character is described as not...

I first heard Emerian Rich's audio podcast version of her tale, NIGHT'S KNIGHTS. I was immediately hooked by the way she weaved the lives of the characters together and by the way she provided ALL of the voices for the characters. That takes a lot of guts and a lot of talent. Period. The story is dark in the right places, historical without being dry, sensual without becoming erotica, yet it pulls no punches. She also brings a fascinating new angle to vampires in how they are turned. Finally, trust me, you will never see the ending coming.

Since listening, I have gone on to purchase the paperback and the Mobipocket eBook. The paperback cover artwork is to die for, and the book is as joyful to read as it was to listen to. Emerian has done a fantastic job all around and I eagerly await the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Vamp Tale that goes beyond, November 16, 2009
This review is from: Night's Knights: A Vampire Tale (Paperback)
When we read about vampires we often don't know what caused the original person to become a vampire. We just read about the gore and grief that is caused by vampires. But in Emerian Rich's Night's Knights, it is all explained. Emerian has a turn on the story familiar to us all, an original step away from the myths and legends we know, into a world completely unexpected yet welcome.

I suggest you read Night's Knights and meet Jespa, the heroine who undergoes a complete transformation from a tough street girl, to.... No. You are going to have to read it. Become completely engrossed in each character and care about their end. And find out why it has the intriguing title of Night's Knight's.

This book left me smiling at the end and wondering where Emerian's story telling will take us next.

Horror has never been my big pull in reading. But I stumbled upon this gem and fell in love with all the characters. I never saw the ending coming and that rarely happens for me. Fresh and exciting with a plot that carries you through the centuries. Can't wait for book two and what follows this new authors career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night's Knights by Emerian Rich Horror/Dark Fantasy By www.lonewolfsageco.com, October 15, 2009

I just read this book after listening to it. Here is what I thought of her podcast and the book.

Great entertainment and allot of fun to listen to. I like the author's voice and have really enjoyed the many voices the author has done. Good job! She just has a very special voice that takes getting use to. I have only listened or read a few vampire books. I would put this one on the top of my list. I did not expect the novel to go where it did. I'm glad the author didn't go to the evil vampire that either just kills to kill or the vampire hunter. The story line was very well written. Love the plot line with all the different characters all the way to the end and can't wait for the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, October 8, 2009
This review is from: Night's Knights: A Vampire Tale (Paperback)
I loved this book! The characters are wonderfully unique and very well written. Jespa, the lead- has a way of keeping it real. Just when you think you're gonna go off on some gothic romantic dream, she crashes reality back into you with her wiley and often, gruff obdurate ways. A great read and a fascinating story- you're sure to love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampire Coolness!, October 8, 2009
This review is from: Night's Knights: A Vampire Tale (Paperback)
I really loved this book. The characters really came to live and the story was solid. I became hooked on the first page and the author kept me guessing as to what the outcome of the novel would be, which is a good thing.

My favorite character was Jespa, a girl with a bad attitude, she rocks. Her boyfriend is cheating behind her back with her best friend, she has a crappy job, and is trying to find her way in the world.

I don't care for vampire books but this novel was a fun read.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and it was well worth the time. The author does a great job developing the characters and then weaving the storyline into something original, interesting, and thought provoking. I was very pleased with the ending and would check out more books to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars All-New Very Dark Vampire Epic, July 12, 2011
This review is from: Night's Knights: A Vampire Tale (Paperback)
I'm on a new reading kick and this book got a big thumbs up from a friend! It's an indie book published by the author and it's really good. The vampires aren't perfect little virgin don't-touch-mes like in Twilight, which I hate. Goody-goody monsters don't make sense. These vamps are strong and powerful and killers. Some of them have also found interesting ways to use their powers, which they don't see as a curse. They see them as Godgiven superpowers to use for good! I liked that a lot. Some of the human characters are also the total opposite of what you see in Twilight. They're tough and mean and smart. Im, sure Jespa is everybody's favorite but I really liked Martin the best. He's sort of a quiet hero. I liked rooting for him. I'd like to read more about Nights' Knights and I hope there's a sequel in the works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moody and Beautiful, November 12, 2009
This review is from: Night's Knights: A Vampire Tale (Paperback)
Emerian Rich's Night's Knight takes the reader from a tough urban contemporary setting to exotic locals in the past gracefully. Each character in the story is well developed and has a back story that unfolds naturally and grows the depth of the story. The tension builds as the book progresses.

Though we see so many depictions of vampires these days that they almost seem commonplace, the author is obviously familiar with the image of the vampire but plays with and grows the ideas that other authors only touch on. I loved that she had the vampires remain true to their vampire natures without them all seeming the same or coming across as humans with sharp teeth. Instead, they exist within a culture, sometimes verging on cult, with its own rituals and belief system. Her exploration of those rituals was especially deft.

Sometimes coarse and grim, the book is also beautiful and surprisingly hopeful-- all the things a vampire story should be.

I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive of getting this book. I really enjoy Emerian's podcast Horror addicts. I've just read so many vampire books that I just wasn't interested in reading a new on but because I liked her short stories so much I gave it a chance.

I'm sorry I waited so long to read it because this is really more then just a vampire story. The characters are well developed and likable. She does a great job of making you care about all the people in this book and the action is great. The book just gets better as it goes along and the last few chapters I was not able to put it down. So If you want a good read check this one out.
