3.0 out of 5 stars An okay mystery/romance
Most of the time I enjoy Graham's Harrison Investigation-oriented books, but Nightwalker was not one of my favorites. I found the mystery interesting, but characters were lukewarm at best. 5.0 out of 5 stars terrific paranormal whodunit, April 11, 2009
This review is from: Nightwalker (Import) (Hardcover)
In the Las Vegas Sun casino, entertainer Jessy Sparhawk wins quite a lot of money at the craps table. Before the Lakota Sioux can rejoice over her gambling winnings, bodyguard Tanner Green falls on top of Jessy. Not moving once he lands on her, Tanner is dead from a knife in his back. Private investigator part Paiute Dillon Wolf pulls the body off of her.

Soon after the Tanner death, a second person who works at the Sun is murdered as the killer is cleaning the crime links, which makes Jessy a potential target. The victim, a parking lot attendant, had witnessed Tanner leave a limo just before his murder. Dillon and LVPD homicide detective Jerry Cheever investigate the two related murders in different manners. Dillon is a nightwalker, as is Jessy now since Green made direct contact by falling on her, as she keeps "seeing" him. Dillon talks with the witnesses, ghosts. He learns that nearby ghost-town Indigo, Nevada is apparently the location of a violent confrontation between the paranormal and human as it once was the location of a nasty gunfight in its old west heyday.

This is a terrific paranormal whodunit starring an intriguing hero, a dedicated cop, and a stunned entertainer whose relative world will never be the same after Green's pinpoint landing. The support cast, living and ghosts enhance the exciting story line by either adding to the investigation or to the Nightwalker ESP skill. The romance remains somewhat in the backdrop as keeping Jessy alive and catching the DEATH DEALER culprit are the objectives superseding his attraction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Same formula same story but it works!, July 16, 2009
This review is from: Nightwalker (Import) (Hardcover)
I have read almost all of Heather Graham's books and they're basically all the same. Damsel in distress sees ghost, murder etc..hunky cop investigates; they fall in love and throughout the book they are stalked, attacked and eventually have mindblowing sex. In between there are either ghosts, vampires and a slew of friends and you just never know who the killer is. Normally the least suspect. But overall, same formula, different city, different occupation but you know what? It works. Her books will never be prize winning but they are good, suspenseful and get you from almost the beginning. I have to say, I enjoyed Nighwalkers. I recommend it. But don't expect anything different from her previous novels.

Heather Graham has done it again, written a wonderful, entertaining book.

I love books about the paranormal and this one is great, About people who see ghosts and try to help them as they can't help themselves. They are called Nightwalkers. I will not go into the story as it will spoil it for anyone who wants to read this book but If you want to be very entertained, Read this book.

Nightwalker (Import HB) Great characters! Lots of mystery. Great love story too! I always look forward to a Heather Graham story. I especially like her paranormal books. "Ringo" is very special in Nightwalker. For me, it's a page turner. Read it in one day.

Most of the time I enjoy Graham's Harrison Investigation-oriented books, but Nightwalker was not one of my favorites. I found the mystery interesting, but characters were lukewarm at best. Ringo the ghost was my favorite! His ascerbic dialogue kept the book interesting. The hero, Dillon Wolf and the heroine Jessy Sparhawk personalities never quite gelled for me. Jessy's relationship with her grandfather seemed more real than her relationship with the hero!

I have yet to find a Heather Graham book I didn't enjoy. I love the paranormal romance with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end. I also enjoy repeat characters from past books making an appearance.

I was impressed with Nightwalker. Her books just keep getting better and better.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Became My Favorite Book by Heather Graham!, October 6, 2011
I was so happy to have discover this 2010 novel, since I had missed it earlier. What a treat for this Halloween month! It's got a great investigation group (who sometimes act as ghostbusters) with Dillon Wolf as one of the primary Nightwalker, an old ghost town called Indigo, and plenty of ghosts--all set in Las Vegas!

And what I enjoyed most of all was the ghost character Ringo, who had become Dillon's sidekick and helped him solve his cases, and even lived with him! How cool is that?! Ringo had once partnered with Dillon's ancestor...and had been killed along with him and others in a gun battle at the Indigo saloon. Gold had been discovered and the owner of most of the property in Indigo had learned that John Varney had just purchased a plot of land and had told his wife he'd found the gold...

But all those that had participated in the shootout were killed that day... Only a few of the town occupants had lived to share the story...

In present day Nevada, Dillon Wolf had been hired through his company to investigate who was trying to kill Emil Langdon, the owner of a new casino. He already had two bodyguards, so Dillon had unwillingly accepted the job. His boss and, strangely, Ringo had wanted him to take it, but he didn't really believe that there was anybody out to kill Langdon, even though a gunshot had been fired near him one night.

And now as Dillon had begun his investigation, he had stopped to play at one of the tables. Jessy Sparhawk was there playing and he was struck by her beauty. He could tell she was very serious about every move she made. In fact, she was anxiously trying to win enough to keep her grandfather in his home, although nobody knew it. But Dillon, sensing her need, took on her cause and evoked the crowd into supporting her, each adding some to her pot, helping her to win a bundle...

But just as she was about to close out, a huge man came lumbering toward her and literally fell across her back, pinning her to the table. Dillon was fortunately still nearby and rushed to help her out from under him. Turning then to the man, they saw the knife still stuck into his back! Dillon saw something else--the man was one of the bodyguards of the man he was working for!

Tanner Green had been a dead man walking, but had time to whisper one word in Jessy's ear: Indigo...

And now Jessy was in danger, for the tape of his death was seen by many and soon Jessy was a target, as well as one of the men who parked cars for the casino and who had seen Green get out of a car that night! Dillon had talked to the worker and almost immediately after that he had been struck down by a car...

And now both dead men, were showing up wherever Jessy was! What did they want from her?!

Jessy had heard that Dillon's company also were known as ghostbusters...so she was finally willing to share that she could see the ghosts that were following her.

What she didn't expect was to have her grandfather start talking about his ancestors visiting him, foretelling him that "they" were all assembling... and to learn that her grandfather, and she, were direct descendants of those that had been in Indigo that day, over 100 years ago!

I'm sure you all have read Heather Graham before, as I have...but I have to say that this book went to the top as a favorite for this writer. I loved it! A truly awesome ghost story with a fascinating, intriguing closing that is brilliantly conceived and delightful to read! This is a perfect book for this scary time of the year! Highly recommended!

Heather Graham has quickly become my favorite author. She surprises me with every book she has written because I never see the twist coming. Yet, it has a wonderfully scripted love story!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but easy read, April 11, 2011

This review is from: Nightwalker (Kindle Edition)
This is the first of this author I have read so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was a decent story with decent characters and a bit of a surprise ending. The story itself was a bit predictable but the likable characters keep it from being something I'd rather put down. I'd pick up something from Ms. Graham again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed, February 24, 2011

Radella (Here and There) - See all my reviews
I picked this book up because the premise looked interesting- Jessy Sparhawk is running on empty. Desperate for some money, she gambles what's left at a Vegas casino. What she doesn't expect is the large man who stumbles into her, and dies rather dramatically, with a knife sticking out of his back and a single word whispered in her ear. Suddenly, Jessy finds herself in the middle of murders, ghosts, and the obligatory sexy private detective, Dillon Wolf.
I found all the characters to be rather flat, and frankly a little boring. There was no character development to speak of, and that's usually my favorite part of a story- watching the characters grow and change. I almost didn't finish the book, because it seemed just like the other book of Heather Graham's that I read (Ghost Walk). It felt tired, and even the little surprises didn't seem all that surprising or unexpected. Nothing really stood out to say "This is a great book!" In fact, it was rather forgettable.
