5.0 out of 5 stars A definite must have for the fans of the 80s synthesized pop, April 4, 2004
This review is from: Nightwalkin' (Audio CD)
Alisha exploded onto the club scene in the early 80s, with the help of her label, Vanguard Records. After a string of successful club hits, like "All Night Passion," "Too Turned On," and "Baby Talk," (which hit #1 on the Billboard Dance chart), major labels began to take interest in this young talent. She signed to RCA Records, and released this album "Nightwalkin'" in late 1987. The album didn't sell well commercially as hope, much thanks to RCA's poor promotion, and poor single choices, and Alisha was dropped. She was later picked up by MCA Records, and recorded one album for them "Bounce Back" (check that out too. Another great album)

Okay, here is a track-by-track review of "Nightwalkin'."

Into My Secret (4/5) : I don't know why RCA decided to release this song as the lead single for Nightwalkin'. There are stronger tracks on this album. Overall, it's a pretty good song, just doesn't strike me as a very radio-friendly song.

Love You Up (5/5) : I love this song! This is definitely in my top 3 favorite songs on this album! It's very infectious, and the chorus is very catchy. Alisha sounds awesome on this song! This could've been a radio hit!

Girls Don't Lie (4/5) : Despite being a good song, I tend to skip over this one. It's got a good story-line, good lyrics, and a good melody/music structure. No doubt it's a good song, it just comes down to personal preference, and this isn't really one of my favorites.

Play With Boys (3/5) : It's SO corny, but SO cute! I guess you just have to hear it to understand. The song is kind of spoken in story-telling sort of way. It's one of those songs that is hard to review! Despite it being the weakest song on Nightwalkin', I enjoy listening to it!

Let Your Heart Make Up Your Mind (5/5) : This, in my opinion, is the best song on Nightwalkin' and I would say one of Alisha's top 3 best songs ever! This is the song that should have been the lead single to release. It's got a great production track backing it, and the vocals are really cool, and the chorus is just so catchy! One of the album's gems right here!! Reason enough to buy the whole album.

I Don't Know What Comes Over Me (2/5) : This song is my least favorite song on the album. It has some corny lyrics, and just not very catchy. The chorus is okay, but the rest isn't so appealing to me. Not completely terrible though.

Do You Dream About Me (5/5) : This song is another true essential to this album! This song, penned by the infamous songwriter Diane Warren, was featured in the motion picture Mannequin. The catchy chorus, along with Mark Berry's percussion and bass-drive production, make this song a true classic!

Save A Little Love (4/5) : This is the one ballad track of the album. I'm rating this song a 4 out of 5 (instead of 3 of 5) because Alisha sounds SO good on it! I'm not a big fan of the song, but it's so cool to hear Alisha sing a slower song. She has a great voice, and really shows it off on this song!

Into The Night (4/5) : I would consider this song the "edgier/rockier" song of the album. It has a catchy chorus, and some good lyrics. It's a good closure song for the album.

OVERALL : (5/5) A definite must have if you love the classic 80s synthesized pop sound or if you're a fan of Alisha!! This album had a bunch of potentials if it was promoted properly, and if the right singles would have been released. RCA never really gave this album a chance. "Nightwalkin'" went out of print in the early 1990s, so this album is VERY VERY hard to find, especially to find one in good condition without promo drill holes. If you find a copy, I strongly suggest on picking it up! It is highly sought after! This album could have been very successful, and it's a shame that it remains essentially unknown.

Took me a while to locate this album from the artisit Alisha who was pretty big in the '80s. As luck would have it, there was one vendor on Amazon selling this particular CD. I placed my puchase and received the CD on time and in perfect condition. Wouldn't hesitate from making future purchaes from this vendor. I'm 100% pleased with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars An underrated but delicious piece of the 80s girl-pop pie, November 13, 2009
This review is from: Nightwalkin' (Audio CD)
Though she displayed a bit more vocal flair on her 1990 album "Bounce Back," this album, with it's polished beats and catchy melodies, is, as a whole, probably Alisha's best work overall. Born Alisha Itkin on May 16th, 1968 (or '69, depending on where you look), she had some admirable if not amazing success in the early/mid 80s as a teenage dance diva before getting the chance to be a big time recording artist. The opener on this album, the catchy, percolating "Into My Secret," is a great way to get things going and probably the best song on the album, but none of the songs are bad, and why this album was so unsuccessful remains a mystery. "Into My Secret" barely cracked the top 100 on any chart, and was the only song from the album to see chart action at all.
