One of the greatest guitarists in jazz, Martino had suffered a severe brain aneurysm and underwent surgery after being told that his condition could be terminal. After his operations he could remember almost nothing. He barely recognized his parents. and had… Read more in Amazon's Pat Martino Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Burning guitar/great music!, December 1, 2001
By
This review is from: Nightwings (Audio CD)
Recorded a number of years after re-entering the music scene, Pat reveals much of the facility and passion evident in his earlier playing. His phrasing is awesome, with solos that will continue to amaze & inspire for many listens. The music is driving and rhythmical, with an excellent rhythm section lineup including Bill Stewart (dr), Marc Johnson (b), and James Ridl (p). The music just keeps moving ahead, with fine comping/solos by James Ridl and understated but excellent sax work by Bob Kenmotsu. The songs are perfect for the incredible ideas and phrasing by Pat Martino which seem to flow endlessly. The whole experience is truly captivating at times, and one of the best CD's I've heard following the return of Pat Martino. Highly recommended! (see the CD "Interchange" as well)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful album by one of the greatest jazz guitarists, August 17, 2003

This is some nice writing from Pat, particularly the opening track "Draw me down" and the album's title track "Nightwings".Pat's solos are as close to perfection as is possible. His guitar sound is great here and his lines are even more exquisite than usual.I would also recommend Pat's CD "Interchange" which was recorded 2 months prior to this one in 94 and has the same instrumentation of guitar, piano, bass, drums only minus saxophone.
