5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of All Nightwish Worlds!
I have been a musician & metal fan for over 20 years. Bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Savatage, King Diamond and Fates Warning were at the top of "my list". Growing up in the 80's during the peak of these bands and listening to much of the garbage being produced today forced me to remain loyal to my original fav's. I organized a band in the late 80's and we played tunes similar in scope to my fav's. But some things were missing.... I wanted a female vocalist, harmonious keyboard and unity unparalleled in the music industry. My band split up in the early 90's but my undying loyalty to the metal of my youth never faded. Over the next 12 years I also grew in the music arena by expanding my listening to classical, opera and sole instrumentation.

Then last year, a friend introduced me to Nightwish. Since then, I haven't listened to anything else. Nightwish is the band I wanted to become.

By far, Nightwish is the most talented group of young musicians on the market today. The perfect blend of instrumentation and vocals - metal mixed with opera. From the softest melodic ballads to the most blistering of thrash metal and everything in-between, this band of talent is a must-have for anyone who appreciates "true" music. With all the trash out there today raking in the millions they are, Nightwish is a wonderful, refreshing escape.

This 4 Disc Compilation is the best music your money can buy. Everyone I have introduced this band to falls in love with their music - from all categories of the music spectrum.

My 2 young boys (7 & 4) have grown to love Nightwish as I do. That is all they ever request to listen to. (That should say something.)

Even though I've never seen the band live because they rarely visit the USA, I am madly in love with the vocalist Tarja and believe that she, together with Tuomas, Jukka, Emppu and Sami have produced the best coalition of musicians in our generation and generations to come.

I will continue to introduce and promote Nightwish to everyone I know and encounter for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sniperfire sounds like a pure loser..., December 11, 2004
This review is from: Nightwish 1997-2001 (Audio CD)
This guy is unreal. Do you even know what an instrument is? Are you familiar with this thing we call talent? Or, do you just create numerous ideals of falsehood to shield your frail mind from all things brilliant? Whatever the case, go back to the ignorant bubble from whence you came, you numbskull.

Nightwish are laden with virtuosity and are Classically trained. The lyrical substance is of timeless taste and with honorable feeling behind it. Much of their palette contains a fine and well-balanced mixture of the wicked and innocent. Fleeting moments of purity when confronted with a wolven evil hold a strong presence...

Which, in my opinion, this evil exists only in the empty thought excretion process of certain humans like "sniperfire" whom have no grasp of passion or magnificence or artistic value. Back to Nightwish...

Well, it's just damn fun music to get into for Fantasy buffs and non-buffs alike. And, I believe this is quite evident to anyone who has ever heard ten seconds of their playing. Buy this and other such masterpieces in support of this band, end of story.
Up the Irons!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!, August 1, 2003

Nightwish is by far one of my all-time favorite bands and I must say this box is the perfect buy for any fan of the band. With each album coming packed with at least 1 new song from the original you get some really rare tracks. I had only 2 complaints about about:

1. All the lyrics are in one booklet and not in 4(also is has 2 versions of the lyrics for Sleepwalker for some reason, and no lyrics for Over the Hills and Far Away).

2. The CDs don't include alot the extra tracks or japanese bonuses, like you see on some other versions here on Amazon.

But, trust me on this, just because of these 2 minor complaints, it does not stop you from buying this GODLY Box. If it does...... you will regret it for the rest of your life!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars So much Nightwish..., March 12, 2003

I'm not really gonna go into depth on this one, but its great. 4 Nightwish albums, with new cookies (the front of the cd), when you put them all together it makes the face of Tarja, the lead female singer, which i think is pretty cool. All the albums are great and this thing is definetely worth the money. If you're a Nightwish fan, get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Amazing - Never gets old, can't stop listening..., January 21, 2006
This review is from: Nightwish 1997-2001 (Audio CD)
I came upon this band a year or so ago after an attempt to broaden my music listening. My number one band for the prior 14 or so years was Metallica, Nightwish now claims that spot. Nightwish is simply amazing! There music is richly complex and beautiful. Seldom is there a band that can compile an album FULL of amazing music, but these folks can, and have several times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent Box Set, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Nightwish 1997-2001 (Audio CD)
With this box set you will get the beginings of Nightwish as well as their evolution since you hace 4 cds. It's the power of the lyrics the music the vocals (tarjas's voice) that make this band so outstanding. I have seen this band Alive when they went to Chile and i must say tarjas voice it's amazing live too, so the band really can play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nightwish "1997 - 2001" Boxed Set, November 1, 2009
This review is from: Nightwish 1997-2001 (Audio CD)
Collecting Nightwish's first three albums and the EP "Over the Hills and Far Away" (which includes six additional songs that were not on the original spinefarm edition) into one package, this boxed set is a nice addition to any fan's collection. However there are a few negatives, mainly that all of the albums are early editions and do not have the bonus tracks that later re-releases and special editions contain. So that today it is not as all-inclusive for these albums as the "1997 - 2001" title might suggest.

As close as I can figure it from the track listing the set contains-

Angels Fall First - First US Edition (? not sure about this one), 1997

Oceanborn - First/Standard Edition, 1998

Wishmaster - Standard Spinefarm Release, 2000

Over the Hills and Far Away- First European Edition, 2001

A few more negatives- the tracks on the back of the book (the packaging most resembles a slim children's book when sitting on a shelf/looking at the spine) are not numbered, which is agitating. Being "packed with photos and info" really means there are 10 photos, mostly of the band but some of the moon/ocean etc as well. Or 14 if you include the super closeups of different parts of Tarja's face which appear on the CDs themselves. And text-wise there is nothing else included aside from lyrics. Don't get me wrong though, the sepia-tone book style pages in between the CDs are still nice as is the rest of the package.

Ultimately one might miss the extra tracks of later re-releases or the original album art, but at the right price this set can be a great value. It's simply a matter of which is more important to you.
