Product Description

Metropolis Records presents more KMFDM Classic re-releases. These long out of print essentials from the band's Wax Trax! Records days have been unavailable for years. Now, Metropolis Records is putting them out in the order in which they debuted. The next releases to be made available are two of the aces in the deck of the KMFDM back catalog, 1995's Nihil and 1996's Xtort. These records contain a veritable who's who of hard alternative music at the time. KMFDM leader and founder Sascha K. conducts a crew featuring the likes of Chris Connelly (Ministry, Rev. Co.), Raymond Watts (Pig), Bill Rieflin (Ministry) and F.M. Einheit (Einsturzende Neubauten). While KMFDM has always been about creating a legacy of quality and never focused on mainstream success, it must be noted that Nihil contains the hit single "Juke Joint Jezebel" and Xtort features the indie favorites "Power" and "Son Of A Gun". These albums have both been given the deluxe treatment which includes all new booklets that have been expanded to 24 pages to include some exciting new material. All KMFDM Classic re-releases have been digitally remastered, presenting their songs in a quality previously unavailable. Documenting the history of KMFDM the accompanying CD booklets all include the original album art (most by famed KMFDM co-conspirator Brute!), in-depth liner notes, quotes from Sascha K., lyrics for each song, never before seen photos of the band, full recording and production credits and more. All work on these releases, from the remastering to the packaging, has been done with the highest level of participation from Sascha K. These releases join KMFDM's first six albums, What Do You Know, Deutschland?, Don't Blow Your Top, UAIOE, Naïve, Money and Angst which are already available from Metropolis Records. Look for the remaining KMFDM Classics, Symbols and Adios, coming soon. The next phase of the legacy begins, KMFDM is back to prove that the rules do not apply! Celebrate chaos, get into the noise!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's about time!, June 23, 2007
By CRAZOTOLOGY (Joplin, MO. (USA)) - See all my reviews
Here it is...Nihil re-released, digitally remastered, new label, and same great songs...only now they sound louder and better. Remember, re-mastered is not the same as remixed. It's still the same songs only now they sound like they just came out this year. The qaulity is excellent and up to par with anything else you would find on a recent Metropolis record. Ok, now about the CD, ...great KMFDM CD, with Raymond Watts (PIG) on vocals. Includes the famous KMFDM hit "Juke Joint Jezebel", and the rest of the songs are mighty cool as well. Great album for fans of Foetus, 16 Volt, Sister Machine Gun, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, and early Marilyn Manson.

Here is a breif summury of the tracks:

1. ULTRA - powerful electro industrial anthem to kick the album into gear. It's a song about setting yourself apart from a conformist society and feeling the true passion of your freedom.

2. JUKE JOINT JEZEBEL - A huge KMFDM hit in the industrial dance clubs. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but IMO, it's about drugs.

3. FLESH - A metal song that seems to be about self forgiveness.

4. Beast - starts off with these acidic sounding organs that clashes into coldwave electronica and rock. Lyrics open to interpretation, IMO, a song about self revelation and being proud of your dark side.

5. TERROR - a verry industrial sounding rock song that uses a political metaphor.

6. SEARCH AND DESTROY - Another industrial metal anthem to non comformity.

7. DISOBEDIENCE - A melodic downbeat industrial song that boosts into some 80's hairband sounding guitars. Lyrics about being oblivious and blind to the a world that is socially inept.

8. REVOLUTION - Coldwave beats put to lyrics about self becoming after a near death situation.

9. BRUTE - Coldwave electronica about a drug and alcohol downward spiral that evoles into a mutation of deacadent self love.

10. TRUST - Another industrial metal anthem to non conformity and self revelation.

11. NIHIL - Instrumental track that would please fans of industrial noise music.

5.0 out of 5 stars An industrial classic, December 29, 2007
Of all the industrial bands that I have been listening to on a regular basis for the last several years now, KMFDM is the industrial band I have been into for the longest time. NIHIL is easily my favorite KMFDM album (w/Raymond Watts). The first song I have ever heard by KMFDM is the popular single "Juke Joint Jezebel" back in 1997. A few years later I finally bought the album NIHIL which included the song. I recently scquired a copy of the newly remastered version of NIHIL. This new version sounds a hundred times better than the original version.

The music on NIHIL sounds as fresh to me as the first time I had heard it in 1999. The only difference is that this album was given a proper remastering treatment. NIHIL is flawless to me. Songs like "Search & Destroy" and "Brute" are brutal and aggressive, the way I like my industrial music. The inclusion of a horn section on "Disobedience" is brilliant on Sascha's part. Industrial music is the last place you would hear a horn section on but it works here on the song. The last track on the cd is a bonus instrumental track simply called "Nihil" which wasn't on the original version. It is a nice way to close out one of my personal favorite KMFDM cds. I strongly recommend for any industrial fan who wants to check out early KMFDM to check out the newly remastered NIHIL. This is why I love this genre and KMFDM.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nihil In A Nutshell, June 25, 2009
I saw that so far this was rated as a five star album so I listened to it again and realized that some might be misled thinking this was one of the best KMFDM albums. If honesty is a virtue then I feel I must express my honest opinion.

While the songs on here are good there's nothing to compare them to -as they all pretty much sound the same. Nihil is the perfect example of average KMFDM. I can see how this album could be considered a classic to some but in my opinion -it's not. However it's hard to imagine this being someones favorite. It is my theory, probably obvious to some already, that the KMFDM album art describes what you would hear when listening to it. And really, in terms of blandness, Nihil's cover art describes itself. The only other dull cover that compares is UAIOE and it's music too is relatively bland. If you want a classic KMFDM album check out Money or Angst.

A previous reviewer said that he owned all the KMFDM albums, as have I. This one isn't at the bottom of the barrel but with 15 studio albums released, as of 2009, it doesn't rank real high against say Money, Angst, Xtort, Symbols, Attak or Adios. Keep in mind though that this album is definitely worth owning if you have a large KMFDM collection. In my opinion the best songs on here are Flesh and Revolution.
