This has to be one of my most cherished possessions!
Many reviews state that they received their crock in several pieces. Mine arrived packaged in TWO boxes and TONS OF PACKING MATERIAL. I really think that after a few broken returns, Amazon got their act together and padded the dickens out of this thing! I really should have bought the 15 or 20 liter crock but then again I love to give Sauerkraut to everyone!!!
If you have never owned a fermentation crock, I urge you to buy one. It will last your whole life and you will love what you can make! It is so easy and makes a great family project. Getting the kids involved in making healthy food and showing them the fermentation process is a wonderful thing.

LIKES:
• The label came off so I could have one color (I hate stickers and labels)
• The color is a very dark brown and it has a flatter lid than the picture
• It comes with the weights!
DISLIKES:
• The water moat that hermetically seals the lid is a little too shallow so you have to keep filling it every couple of days to maintain the seal
• The side handles aren’t really very good for grip but then if they were bigger making it easier for you to carry, they would break off more easily anyhow.

To be perfectly honest, I wanted a Harsch fermentation pot which is no longer made. After doing some research, I read that the patented lid and water trough for the harsch is now at Schmitt so I decided to purchase the 10l. It was a good deal, relatively speaking, as it came with the weight stones unlike other comparably priced crocks. It arrived quickly and wrapped well and now has about 12lbs of sauerkraut happily fermenting in it. The only thing I was disappointed in was the aesthetics. Around the rim, though not affecting the seal, were several areas of "slag" left from the glazing. It made it rather rough to sharp in areas and shredded my sponge when I washed it in prep for use. I realize it does not affect the usability of the crock, but for $130+ I would have liked a little better attention to detail in the manufacture and quality control. It may not matter to most, and certainly not enough to me to send it back, but I find it irksome, nevertheless. Consider it an FYI caveat for what it's worth.

The only thing wrong with this is the handles...they are just upside down shelves...and when you have it filled it is heavy!

This Fermenting Crock Pot gave me a beautiful batch of sauerkraut. My only complaint is that the weight stones that came with it really seem sized for a smaller crock.

The water seal works beautifully. Making kimchi right in my small kitchen and NO ODOR escapes. Very solid and well made. Easy to clean. Included weights adequate to keep product submerged. One issue: Very large. I have the 10 liter model and one 5 pound head of nappa (plus carrot, daikon and the rest) fills it only one third of the way. You may want the 5 liter if you're a small household. By the way, making kimchi is much easier than I thought and I can get rich flavor using entirely vegan ingredients. Truly rewarding! This site <http://www.foodcraftlab.com/food/fermentation/how-to-make-kimchi> had good suggestion to use powdered shiitake and kombu to boost umami (and to try this crock). This video <www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8E0XaX0tR0> from Hungry Gopher was most helpful explaining how to salt properly. Many thanks guys.

I have made sauerkraut before - trying to keep the container cool and sealed, sterilizing bricks to weight - - only made sauerkraut every couple of years because of the hassle - I could not believe how easy and better tasting the sauerkraut was with the fermenting crock! I hope to try fermenting some other vegetables over the winter after I've finished with all of my cabbage.

Well, I got the smaller one, and was shocked at how large it is. Boy if you get a much bigger one, you can ferment for the whole neighborhood!!! LOL But, maybe when I start in, it won't be as big as I think it is...LOL Very well made. However the instruction manual, or I should say folded paper, was badly done, and not helpful at all, as it was cut short and lost some of the major instructions... Alas, I will have to go to YouTube to get some pointers.

I purchased this for a Christmas gift for a family member. Since I own two Harsch crocks I was really disappointed that they are out of business and their crocks are no longer available. I order this brand hoping for comparable quality but was very disappointed. Not only was the front of the pot chipped (packaging was not damaged) but it appears the glazing used on the pot had run under the pot and lid edges so they are rough and sloppy looking. I am returning and ordering the Polish brand available on Amazon. Hopefully it will be a much better quality. The style is attractive and the price is comparable to these.
