Great for ~ 7 months of play then became lopsided
on March 13, 2015
The Elite Airlock was my next favorite ball after the old Spalding TF-1000. The Airlock has great grip (i.e., not too spongy like the Evolution or Baden Elite) and it feels nice leaving the shooting hand. I loved practicing and playing with the ball. Unfortunately, after about 7 months of regular use, I noticed the shape of the ball had changed and it had become lopsided. I've purchased a lot of basketballs, and I think they should last more than 7 months.
I called Nike's customer service line and they suggested deflating then inflating the ball - didn't work. I sent the ball in for inspection for what Nike refers to as a "manufacturer defect" or "workmanship flaw". Sadly, Nike would not stand behind their product and I'm now out the price of the ball (paid $65) and the shipping cost to Nike ($12). In summary from my experience, for the cost of the Nike Elite basketball I would not recommend buying this ball if you expect it to last more than 7 months. I'm going to try out the Molten BGG7 composite basketball next.
