Nice mid-range cleats, but not for everyday play, February 26, 2009
This is my 5th pair of soccer cleats since I started playing, and although they're good, they're not the best I've ever had.
For starters, they're heavier than the typical Nike model, but personally, I don't like feather-light boots anyway. Plus, they do help in giving me better weight on my passes and shots when I need it. The asymmetric lacing has become standard now, but is a pretty useful thing when you play seriously. Also, I find that ball control feels easier with these. I don't know if the basketball-like rough surfaces on the sides and top of the boot help, but I'm able to keep the ball more easily with these.
They're also built pretty solidly, and after 5 months [of admittedly irregular use - I'm not as fit as I used to be... :(], haven't shown any sign of wear and tear yet.
About the fit, they're a little wider than the conventional narrow bodied boots, but that just gives you more room to control the ball with, and don't make your feet feel too smashed up. They feel good initially, but as I start pushing the 90 minute mark, they get a little abrasive and start irritating the sides of my toes, and if I play for more than a couple of hours, sometimes leave me with blisters. A fellow player suggested that I tape around the toes, and that did work to an extent, but I'd rather not have my boots do that to me in the first place!
The price is, well, high on Amazon, but is cheaper if you look it up in a sports store. I got mine for $40, and I think I got a decent deal on it. That puts it right in the middle of the price range for soccer cleats.
The bottom line - they're good, but not great, especially if you play everyday. But if you're a bi-weekly kinda player, and want something durable and better than the $20 Bravia, this would be a good bet.
