5.0 out of 5 stars One the all-time finest dog movies! Buy it now!, March 13, 2000
A beautifully filmed adapation of James O. Curwood's NOMADS OF THE NORTH (quite different from the book-- an entire romance plot is dropped-- which is actually better! ), NIKKI is one of the greatest dog films ever. Here is Disney live-action at its best, with incredible scenery and a great story set in the Canadian Northwest of 1899.

Also, the Indian is played sympathetically by a real native actor-- a double rarity from the time of this film's production.

Your kids will love it, and its just what they should be watching... buy it before it goes out of print again. AL

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely friendship between a malamute and a bear cub, March 6, 1999
By A Customer
I got this movie a year ago and I have already watched it about 40 times! It caught my eye because I have an obsession with Malamutes and this is the first movie I've seen with a malamute as the main star! This movie is about Nikki a malamute and Neewah a bear cub. Watch as Nikki and Neewah go through funny and moving adventures I really recomend this movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining nature film with a story., April 26, 2001

One thing can be said about Disney in the 50s and 60s, and that is it put out some great films with animal stars, from the True-Life Adventure series to "Old Yeller" and others. This film combines a True-Life filmmaking approach with a good adventure story, and the result is entertaining family fare. The Malamute and the bear cub are adorable! Both adventure and nature commentary are shown, combined with gorgeous on-location photography (filmed in Canada) and a nice music score.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wilderness adventure in Canada, February 19, 1999
By A Customer
The film version of 'Nomads of the North' by James Oliver Curwood. This is a wonderful Canadian wilderness adventure between Nikki (Malemute) and Neewah (Black Bear Cub) and Andre Dupas, the trapper who found the bear cub. When Nikki and Neewah swim ashore after a canoe swamping, their adventure begins.

A great 1961 Disney wilderness adventure filmed near Banff, Alberta.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal favorite, November 22, 2000

This review is from: Nikki: Wild Dog of North (DVD)
My great-aunt raised the dog in this film and when I saw it as a child I had a personal interest. Walt Disney made this movie and it is one that you wanted everything to turn out great for the dog. The dog is beautiful and the scenery is great. Thanks to Violet Reddington there is a classic dog film that everyone is sure to love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nikki, falsely accused, comes to the rescue of his master., July 12, 1999
By A Customer
In this Disney classic, the hero, Nikki, comes to the aid of his master and saves the day. The film which is stunningly filmed in the outdoors, is appropriate for middle school aged children. The overt manipulation of emotions by the director at the end of the movie produces a heartwarming (and predictable to adults) ending. This is a must own video.

This review is from: Nikki: Wild Dog of North (DVD)
Just received the DVD of "Nikki wild dog of the North". I had originally seen this movie back in the early 60's when it was on "The Wonderful World of Disney". This movie has some of the greatest outdoor scenery. Definitely one of my all time favorite dog adventure movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could get it on DVD, December 16, 2011
By
I acutally don't own this movie or a VHS player anymore but as I'm looking for old dog movies, Nicki just popped in my mind and I had to see if I could get it on DVD. not available sadly.. but, I might just have to get a VHS player for this (and other oldies).
This movie has a really special place in my heart. I watched this soooo much as a kid with my dad who loved this movie. It's all about the raw life out there on the land; just you and your trusted dog! Dogs are awesome and this movie clearly demonstrated that. I really apprecaite the scenery and way the lifestyle was filmed. The man of the movie this handsome, strong old school man too from the older days. I like seeing how people lived before.

A great movie for those who know the true value of out furry companions! :) I'm so happy I found this movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nikki: Wild Dog Of The North, December 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nikki: Wild Dog of North (DVD)
This film came at a time when our world was clean and adventure was a pure and brave aspect. Nikki is a story that shows love of a different kind then the adventure or dramas of today. The film is a little harsh when it shows the cruelty of man towards animal but it also shows man's cruelty to man. But it reveals the love and devotion that a dog or any animal can feel towards another animal or to a human. The bravery and courage of Nikki throughtout the film climaxed with him still being a loving and devoted animal to his man friend, even though MAN had tried to harm him and make him mean. The scenery and naration throughout the film is great and made the film come alive to me. I was only 10 years old when Nikki was released for viewing and I cried because I never knew anyone to hurt a animal before and it taught me to respect the animals because they were here first and deserve to be loved and taken care of by us. Thank God for Walt Disney.
