This toy is wonderful. Very fun. My 5 year old can put it together himself with a little help from his older brother who is seven. They have created larger machines using all the parts from all the Erector sets. Wonderful hands on project for developing fine motor skills.

I purchased this for my 3 year old daughter. She likes to build it but needs a little bit of help. Also, I checked out the Step 1 and Step 2. They are a little to challenging for her. We will get the step 1 and 2 when she is older.

This is a great building set for kids. Erector sets help children learn to follow directions, problems solve when something isn't working, and then once the toy is built they get to use their imaginations! This specific set lets them built two different toys plus whatever else they can think up themselves!

My parents bought the Meccano Build & Play '5 Model' (green & orange) for our just turned 5 year old son. It looks very cool but it won't stay together during construction, let alone play. The problems seem to come from the screws being too short, the edges of the flat pieces too thick too close to where the nut needs to be tightened & that the nuts just can't be tightened due to the 1st 2 issues. My son understood the instructions & was excited to make the different cars, etc., but when we couldn't tighten the screws well enough to hold it together we both became very frustrated. I will not purchase this brand again- the frustration outweighs the potential 'coolness' by a mile.

The box says it is for ages 4+. The idea that a 4 year old could put this toy together is laughable. I'm 40 years old, have a degree in engineering and flatter myself that I'm not entirely stupid, and I almost tore my hair out in frustration attempting to assemble the motorcycle. In the end the pieces still don't fit together quite right, especially the front wheel which seems like it could fall off at any time. I won't be attempting the car.
