1.0 out of 5 stars No Extended Warranty! June 28, 2011
By Sherida

I am leaving a 1 star review because I think that buyers should know that these lenses are NOT manufactured for the US market and therefore do NOT come with a Nikon extended 4 year warranty.

When my lens came without the warranty card, I called the company and was told it must be "lost" and I would have to return the lens and order another. So I called Nikon who checked the serial number of my lens and said it is not even in their system. They said unless the lens is sold by an authorized dealer, they will not warranty it. Buyer beware.

I use this lense as a short range to mid range shooting system on both my D7000 and D300s. It performs like you would expect the Nikkor Lense would..perfectly...the weight is managable and the photos are crisp and clear..the auto focus is almost soundless and the VR makes it good for when I am rushing a from a bad angle (you know that one, almost upside down and cranked over trying to hold the camera steady with one hand while the other one grips onto a pole...yeah, that one)..

For the price...you cant go wrong for a good workhorse lense..

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this lens for everyday use October 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
We have now bought this lens twice. I broke the first one at a festival this summer and we immediately ordered an exact replacement online.

The lens is great for pros (my husband) or beginners (myself) for day to day use. We take our camera everywhere and we have both gotten amazing shots with this lens on our D3100. He also uses this lens for product photography and gets great results.

For the price, this is the best lens we have ever bought. I'm not nervous about dropping it because it can easily be replaced, unlike a lot of my husbands lenses that are thousands of dollars and only for very specific uses. This lens is affordable, versatile, and great for many different photography styles and experience levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars 18-55 3.5-5.6G Afs DX VR October 3, 2012
Once in awhile one gets a nice surprize when purchasing something. I purchased the
Nikon 18-55 VR for my wife as it was lighter than most zooms, had a wide to normal FD, and gave her a chance to get her feet wet in photography. To my surprize, this inexpensive lens (not cheap) has been producing some exceptional photos. It is very sharp, has great color, and has been reliable after 2 years. If you look closely, you might pick up some CA and distortion, but it has not been objectionable in the least. I own the 24-70 and 14-24 and am
somewhat critical regarding lenses. This is great lens that I find myself using more and more. I think I will be buying one of these for myself. If you are thinking about buying a normal DX lens, you might consider this lens. Some people call this a throwaway-not me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lens. July 8, 2012

This lens is great and was a good price. Have been nothing but happy with the shots I have taken with it, except of course the operator error shots :) that had nothing to do with the lens.... would recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Razor sharp! Well built. A great value. March 15, 2012
Last week I purchased a Nikon DSLR that came with this lens. My expectations were relatively low since kit zooms have a reputation for being cheaply made and relatively poor optically. I have to say that I am extremely impressed by the build quality of this lens and utterly blown away by how crisp and sharp the images are. I've owned a lot of lenses over the years from a cheap $80 Tamron 29-80 to a $2000+ Nikkor 70-200 2.8 ED IF and have to say that this is absolutely the SHARPEST zoom I have ever purchased.
There has been a lot of criticism in the reviews of this lens because it uses plastic construction, including on the lens mount. However, I'd like you to consider putting your general understanding of plastic vs. metal aside and consider how far plastics have come. Nikon plastics are high end and on many parts they use a fiber reinforced plastic composite. They are extremely lightweight and, in my experience, very likely to survive a drop unscathed. Metal is heavy (meaning a harder impact) and it dents when it hits the concrete hard enough. Nikon has been using plastic lens mounts on its less-expensive lenses for years and I have yet to read a review anywhere complaining that one of these mounts has worn out from heavy use. Let's face it, if you are a National Geographic photographer making 20 lens changes a day you are going to be shooting with the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED pro lens. While this piece of pro glass may feature a bulletproof steel construction and lens mount it also costs just shy of 10x as much. For $200 list, Nikon has produced a great lens in the 18-55mm that rivals pro lenses in optical performance. My logic is that if the unthinkable happens and my lens mount fails, I will just buy a replacement and still come out financially ahead.

4.0 out of 5 stars great lens for the price January 22, 2012

this lens is great for the price. great glass, with VR to boot.
only complaint is the worldwide edition. the packaging looked like it was stolen from a warehouse, and did not include normal items you would expect with a nikon lens (no instruction booklet, no lens cap, cheap packaging).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great lens, but it had been repackaged January 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
When I bought this lens it was advertised as factory fresh. But it was definitely, at best, an open box item. The box had been mangled, all inside packaging was replaced, no manual, and no warranty card.

The lens was undamaged and the repackaging included silica gel moisture absorbent.

I have used the lens on several occasions and it works great, much better in low light than very good original lens that came with my D40. It focuses faster and produces an even better quality photo.

The price reflects an open box item, just wish that had been said up front.

Any warranty is through Ace Photo Digital only, not Nikon.
