Bought this to use with my D90. There are few options to take a shot without pressing the shutter button of your camera: -

i.) Use the timer in your camera
ii.) Use a wireless remote device
iii.)Use a wired remote device

The main reason of avoiding pressing the shutter button of your camera is to reduce/prevent camera shake/vibration.

Of the three options above, let me break it down to why this wired remote is the best of them all: -

1.) It is much more reliable than a wireless remoted. I have a wireless one but if the angle is not right, you can't also get the trigger. The wireless requires battery to function and sometime, the battery is drained when you needed it the most. The power source of this device is from your camera.
2.) It is compact and light. It will fit nicely in a pocket of your camera bag or your clothing.
3.) It is very easy to use. The connector goes to a specific slot in the D90. Basically, "plug and play".
4.) It is very versatile. If you press the button once, you got a single shot; if you hold it down, you can get a burst.
5.) It has a "lock" feature that allows you to use the bulb setting in your camera for exposure longer than 30 seconds. Otherwise, you could equally use the timer in your camera to reduce camera shake.
6.) It is reasonably priced and doesn't cause you an arm and a leg.

This remote works with a D3100!!! Check your user manual for compatible accessories! I have a D3100 and had a difficult time finding anywhere that stated this remote was for use with the D3100 explicitly. The MC-DC2 not only works with the D3100 but also provides a whole new range of shooting options for both the experienced and beginning photographer. The MC-DC2 remote is easy to use and, so far, has given me no problems-- construction seems to be solid and the shutter lock has a satisfying feel to it.

Dedicated primarily for use with both the Nikon D90 and D5000 digital SLRs, the Nikon MC-DC2 Wired Remote has really been a workhorse for me. Unlike hit and miss wireless battery powered remotes, this model delivers my shots each and every time.

Light weight and mounted with a 41" cable, I'm able to fire off quick bursts with just the press of a button. To get the extended exposure shots that I need, I just press and slide the switch forward. Its a good idea to check the camera settings and keep an eye on the cable connection.

My only negative about this product is like its competitors, Nikon opted to outfit its new line of remote cables with thin wiring. I seriously have my doubts that the wiring will hold up over time. I miss the heavier cable.

Like most Nikon gear, there is the standard one year manufacturer's warranty on this product. Unfortunately Nikon offers no real information about their lineup of remote accessories on its website. There is a toll free customer support number posted.

With the exception of the thin wiring issue, I am very satisfied with this remote unit. Its been a performer. Let's hope it can go the distance.

I bought the MC-DC2 to use with my Nikon D7000, since the simple wireless remote that I had previously purchased did not allow me to control the camera in bulb mode. The cable release is well-made, and plugs into the GPS port. It works perfectly and is quite useful when in mirror lock-up mode.

I use the MC-DC2 with the D90 when doing macro work (with delayed timer) and it works great. I also use it when photographing birds to stay out of view of them. I think the cord length is just about right for what I use it for. Build quality is first rate (I guess you get what you pay for) and I am thoroughly satisfied with it :)

You must have this for taking long exposure and bulb shots over 30 seconds. Great for astrophotography. It's also useful when using a tripod. Plug and play. Works perfectly with D3100.

What can be said. Delivery was prompt and the remote works great with my camera (D7000). It plugs into the same port as the external GPS unit so if you use your GPS frequently, this may not be the right remote for you.

I like to get value for my hard-earned dollars, as most people do. So I considered buying the far less expensive Zeikos wired remote, until I read the horror stories of that plug breaking off in the camera body. I spent the extra money for the genuine Nikon product and I am glad I did. The Nikon remote works perfectly with my D3100. Nicely made and satisfying to use. The plug fits perfectly, not too tight and not too loose. Sometimes the lowest priced item is not the best deal, and this is one of those times.

I'm very glad I bought this product. I love being able to focus, then shoot with the remote trigger. The trigger also has a lock to hold it down for multiple exposures. I just have more control with this corded remote vs my wireless remote. My only complaint is the length. My previous remote cord I bought was 6ft. This was great for shooting birds at a feeder, etc. This cord is only 41" long, so it's quite a bit short than my previous remote. I didn't read the product description carefully enough before I purchased. I didn't return it because I ended up using it a lot for portrait work. I will add a longer one to my kit later.
