4.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough
I've had my Nikon D-5000 for a couple of months now and use this case pretty much exclusively. My original Nikon 35mm film camera (for those old enough to remember film) case used the tripod mount to secure the case to the camera. As the D5000 has the screen the old approach does not work. 3.0 out of 5 stars Does an adequate job
This camera cover is nothing special but it does do an adequate job when you want to carry your camera but not a big, bulky case. The cover has a velcro closure and snaps over one of the camera straps - the snap is not very secure, so you generally have to remove the cover completely when you want to use the camera.

I've had my Nikon D-5000 for a couple of months now and use this case pretty much exclusively. My original Nikon 35mm film camera (for those old enough to remember film) case used the tripod mount to secure the case to the camera. As the D5000 has the screen the old approach does not work. So, there is a small strap that goes around the neck strap, and you pull the entire case off to shoot and it sort of dangles there. After taking a couple of pictures, you have to pull the case back around the camera (and often the right side sort of folds in and you have to try again). If I'm going to be taking more than a few shots, like at the zoo, I leave the case off completely. So, not the most convenient case, but at the same time not sure how you would improve it. It provides a little protection for dust and bumping and scratches. It is worth buying but can't rave over it.

A must for your D-5000 camera. A little bit of added protection when traveling to and from shoots. This one piece case does not attach to the camera but encases it and has a Velcro closure for easy access to the camera. The case can be removed for camera use or dangled from the camera strap if you do not have a place to put it while capturing a memory. This could potentially get in the way but I have not experienced this yet.

I bought armour coating and it does not fit in the case. Buy the armor if you want to use the camera often but, get the case if you just want to carry it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect carry case for a minimalist, September 24, 2010

This review is from: Nikon CF-DC2 Semi-soft Cast for Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera (Electronics)
I was hesitant about this because 1) it didn't have a strap and it uses the strap on the camera 2) it was as soft shell 3) it didn't have space or pockets for additional lens cover. After I put the cover and sling it over my shoulder, it felt like exactly what I was looking for in a case. A case that wasn't too bulky that covered my nikon D5000 when I took it outdoors. It was light with a thick enough nylon shell that will protect the camera, so I can put it down in the car or carry it on my side. I predict I will plan ahead to use a filter or hood and I expect it to be on the camera anyway, if I'm shooting outdoors. No room for an extra lens and battery, but I plan to keep those in the hotel or some other carry case if I'm ever in that mode. I just need a good holster. I can pull out the camera easily and there is strap with a snap button that will allow it to hang off the camera while shooting. It doesn't interfere with shooting, although it felt awkward at first, I got used to it quickly. I will plan of bringing a backpack of some sort if I need to remove the case completely to shoot without the case hanging off the strap (or give it to my wife to hold). Having an SLR and planning to shoot outside, you should always have a pack anyway, unless your camera case is a big sack with enough space to hold everything including an extra lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad, August 27, 2011
This review is from: Nikon CF-DC2 Semi-soft Cast for Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera (Electronics)
This soft case is good for protecting my Nikon D5100 and lens when I am traveling or walking around. It looks a bit bulky but it does the job. When I want to take pictures I have to take it off completely to shoot. It's kinda inconvenience because I don't know where to put them. This case fits perfectly with Nikon D5100 body and nikkor 18-200mm zoom lens on it. It's also fit with Tokina 12-24mm wide angle lens. Unfortunately, the hoods have to stay home. It's also fit with Nikon D5100 with nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens with hood. Hope this info help.

This is my first digital SLR. I am used to the old cases which attached to the tripod socket and simply flipped forward and out of the way for use. This case attaches to the camera strap and just kind of dangles there while you shoot. I don't like it, but really can't see how they could have designed it differently. The longer lens on the DSLR prevents a forward flip of the case. That being said, the case is well padded and does the job of carrying the camera safely.

This case offeres excellent protection for my Nikon Digital Camera, however there needs to be a way to connect it to the camera that keeps it out of your way, so that you do not have to carry it separately. I purchased for a trip to Disneyland but did not use it in the park as had to completely take it on and off every time I used it. Was fine for in the car or times when I was taking just a couple of pictures at a time.

Pleased with fast delivery. The case is well designed, the drop away link on one strap is a super good idea.

Could use a small pocket for lens brush of spare SD card.

This case is too short for my camera D5000 with the 18-200mm zoom, had too return it. The return was handled very well, no problems.
