The Quintessential Book On The History of Nikon.,
This review is from: The Nikon Camera in America, 1946-1953 (Paperback)
I just completed reading Michael Wescott Loder's book, The Nikon Camera in America, 1946-1953. It is a well researched book that chronicle's the very early history of Nikon, and their very first attempts to export their products to the United States. Very few people knew, including myself, that Nikon had been an optical manufacturer on par with Leitz or Ziess at that time. Loder's book details Nikon, after the war, step by step, following a time line, that details the US Occupation in Japan and how the US Government was involved in the reconstruction of Nikon and other companies. Along with very important facts on who truly was the first importer of Nikon products into the US and what they did to ensure Nikon's success in the US market. Loder's book has a very nice flow to it, easy to read, understand, and you will not want to put it down! It's full of very interesting facts and anecdotes. I highly recommend it! This is an outstanding book for anyone interested in Nikon cameras and the company's history. Loder skillfully presents his subject in an interesting and easily followed manner, and explains the many challenges that had to be overcome before the first Nikon camera was produced and accepted in world wide markets. This is a must-have book for the serious Nikon collector.
