NX2 is a lot different than most editors but it has a lot of very interesting and powerful tools - especially for RAW. It can be confusing at first. The author knows the product well and is obviously a gifted artist. Really impressive the way he can take a pretty blah photo and turn it into an interesting picture.

But for newbies like me he assumes you know way too much. In my opinion he goes through the basic tools too quickly and assumes you understand a lot of photo vocabulary and concepts.

I would spend a lot of time reading the manual and then consider this purchase as a way to pick up some tips from a master.

By the way. Actually 2 disks of DVD. But the whole course is included as a movie on the third disk so you can drag it over to your hard drive. I had problems seeing what he was doing using the DVDs. But I found that using the movie version was easier and also I could pick a much better display which enabled me to see what he was clicking on.

I learn better through visuals aids. I assumed that this DVD would be my answer to learning to use Capture NX 2. I have NX 1.x version for some time now,and I think I am pretty efficient in using Capture NX.. 1.X Well, this dvd is a joke. He does not go in any order. He assumes that everyone that is watching this DVD is a color management expert/pro.!! He spend half the time on IR infrared photography! ?? Instead going into the meat and potatoes of this program, he picks a few esoteric examples and pretty much thats is it! As I said before I am familiar with Capture NX 1.X version, and I still felt that this guy is going at hyper speed with no real order. I would pay $10 for this DVD not a penny more. I realy felt ripped off.

After being spoiled by Deke and his adobe974 reviews Mr. Versace99 doesn't measure up.!
It is apparent he knows the program but he doesn't explain things very well. He will say things like'over here' and I placed a watch point here- the problem is you cannot always see what he is doing because he is working on a tablet and there are no close ups. He doesn't explain what a watch point is or why he doing what he's demonstrating.
Also, he goes against all program educators in his approach to editing- he does his cropping of the image first. I know why he does this but he doesn't explain that NX2 is non destructive.
It's still worth buying but I'd get Jason Odell's book as a reference. That way you will fully be able to figure out NX2 which is a great and easy program.

Vincent Versace's photography is amazing. Watching how he starts with an image and gets to his final result is just as amazing.

In this video set you will watch and learn how to use Capture NX 2 as if you are looking over his shoulder. He covers just about every setting and tool, not just how to use them, but when to use them. He even provides downloads of the original RAW files so you can work on them as well.

His approach is artistic and technical, but completely understandable. You will find yourself zipping through images so much faster after watching this video. It really helps your realize how powerful Capture NX 2 is. I also recommend getting Jason Odell's eBook as the two of these are a great complement to each other.

Well worth the purchase.

Vincent doesn't go into enough detail how to use shortcuts. He uses them through his demo, but doesn't explain enough how he does it. To much time spent on infra red images editing.
I expected more for this price.

Might be worth $9.95 but not a penny more. The screen shots are unreadable. Focus is on the back of his hand so you cannot see what he is pointing at or clicking on in the program. He doesn't "see much use for the lasso tool" because of the "power of the color select points". The color control points are indeed powerful but he thereby eliminates another extremely powerful feature of NX2 - the ability to use any edit features (blur, sharpen, color, hue, brightness, etc., etc.) in a localized area and/or in an area that is defined by what is included or excluded by the lasso tool. He covers this feature not at all. Doesn't even mention it. Disk 2 is worthless unless you are interested in IR photography. He does show some examples of image modifcation but these are undoubtedly only to fill up space on the second CD.
Buy the superb O'Dell book and use the saved monies to buy your wife/friend a bauble. Sure wish I had done so.

I've been a long-time user from Capture 4 to NX and now NX2. I really like it. Get some additional training though. Books and DVD training seem to have the best content.

I am new to digital photography so I ordered this video to learn more about Capture NX2. Lots of problems - first, the download he provides in the opening credits is not a good link. Second, the screen he uses is virtually unreadable. It is small and blurred and his hand is in front of it a lot. Third, he assumes entirely too much knowledge on a new user's part. I could have learned just about as much by reading a book and experimenting with Capture NX2. He did not explain much....just showed how he uses it. Last, it is not really 3 DVDs.....Two are DVDs, the third is a repeat of the first 2 and is made exclusively for PC playback.

This set is ok but I was expecting a whole lot more from a pro like Vincent. Very vague in his explanation of how the software works. He does get you started but don't expect anything in depth.

If you use Capture NX2, Then this is a very good walk through guide to using all the software's features. With in depth explanations and how to's. For me very worth while.
