When I first turned on the camera and started taking pictures, I too noticed the grainy quality of the pictures. Then I started reading the manual! What a great idea, huh? It has different "scenes" in which you can choose whatever current situation you are in while taking the picture. If you press the scene button, you can select up to 18 different scenes in which to take your pictures. You can choose anything from museum (no flash)and sporting events, to candlelight/parties and fireworks! All you need to do is select what's right for the situation you're in. You can also select auto scene where the camera will automatically select which scene it thinks you're in. This is a great camera!! I love being able to turn my photos to black & white and sepia, and write little notes on them. You can also record messages to go with your pictures! I love the large touch screen, and being able to touch-up the pictures directly on the camera! Bottom line is, if you know how to use the camera, you shouldn't have a problem, and you'll most likely love it just as much as I do!

I purchased this camera for my daughter to replace a beat up 5MP pocket camera (Samsung) that used batteries up like no tomorrow. It was a competent little camera but it was time for an upgrade for her. At 16 years old it was time for her to have an update for taking snapshots of family and friends and to give her the ability to document our many family vacations. I own a Nikon DSLR that is up in the 1,000 to 2k dollar range and it gets frequent use and has been quite durable. The issue with it is size. This camera is no where near as advanced as my DSLR but it is quite competent for a camera in its price range.

For those critics out there who have had issues with picture quality READ THE OWNERS MANUAL!! This is a very easy camera to use right out of the box but to get the most out of it you need to choose the right mode for the type of photo you are taking. It seems many are reporting grainy photos or problems with image quality. We have never seen that with this camera. It is small, has a decent lens with a rechargeable battery and takes SDHC memory which allows larger capacity SD memory cards. I was able to pair this camera with a 8gb SDHC memory card I found for 18.00. That will give this camera the ability to take well over 500 photos.

I picked this camera up for 200.00 and I feel its a good value for that price with the touchscreen, rechargeable battery, good lens and solid build quality. If you don't want to read the manual and take a little time getting familiar with the many features of the camera then move on. Reading is fundamental! LOL

I bought this camera as a brainless alternative to my full-featured high end DSLR. Guess which one comes with me everywhere? It's so easy to shoot with this little pocket camera, and so guiltless. Easy to use, small and convenient. I have no issues with the image quality. Then again, I know what the high end looks like, so maybe my expectations are more reasonable. You gets what you pays for - and I like it a lot.

This is an excellent camera! The people who give this camera bad reviews apparently do not know how to use the camera properly. Read the owner's manual and it works fantastic!

This Nikon Coolpix S230 camera is Awesome! Love the 3 inch touch screen. It's easy to use and takes great photos. I would highly recommend purchasing this camera.

I may have not bought my Nikon Coolpix S230 (Plum) On Amazon but I love mine. I did my reviews to choice between Nikon/Kodak/Samsung. Trust me I wanted Samsung badley as it had display view front/back, but the price was just too high for me to afford. I found my Nikon in BJ Wholesale store under $200.00, which price at the store and on line said for $189, but I only paid at the register $169. I bought it home, charged the battery, took some test picture of my cat, my husband, printed it and I was amazed how clear, crisp and bright the pictures were, even in the room with no lights hardley can be seen of my cat. The reason I bought this camera is we are going to the football game and since our seat is in a great spot, I wanted a camera where I didn't have to do much with, except turn it on, zoom in if I had to and take picture and I found this camera has and will do this for me. Also, I can take as many pictures I want and I can at the same time I can view it, delete it right on the spot. Love it, love it and I am so glad I got it. I am not a photographer my all mean, but when I look for cameras, I look MP/Optical Zoom and length of the LCD, and I got everything in this camera. I now know I made the right choice for touch screen I wanted.

Try it and I know you will like it as I know I am glad I got it and thrilled with it.

I have had this since Mothers Day and it's now October. Never had a problem with it! It is a great camera. I think those who are complaining about blury pics are not using the camera correctly. You do need to play with settings on any camera to have the correct lighting, object, etc settings so you can take the optimum pic. Although it is a point and shoot, it does have several features and functions that make it great, but apparently have turned some people off. It also means that some will not take the time to change the settings after opening the box. It's unfortunate because this is one of the few cameras I tried that took quick clear pics of my 1 and 3 year olds. Hopefully people will take a chance on this camera because it is a great camera!

Easy to use and Easy to produce pictures that look like a far more expensive camera! You have the option to place your choices on Auto and point and shoot with the same incredible results - or just use some manual controls to control other options. I love the auto flash, no red eye, and the ability to take pictures of kids/animals in motion - no blurs!!!
I LOVE the touch tone BIG WORDS screen! 3" and no small icons to try to figure out or remember what they stand for! The anti-reflective screen on the LCD make it easier to see in sunlight!!!!
It comes with 44mb internal memory! It has cords to attach it for viewing on TV and on the computer! The rechargeable battery comes with a very quick charger (from no charge to full charge in 100 minutes or less).

I wanted one small, light and good looking. This one is smaller and lighter that Canon sd870 I wanted to buy, does not like Canon Sd790 give a lot red eyes. I took some pixs of my children sleeping with no light on, came out wonderful, better than Canon sd790's pixs. And, it is SO easy to use, all are automatic.
Cons: Needs the cord to charge battery.

I was browsing for a fun digital camera for weeks! I searched high and low, visited many different stores, browsed online. You name it, I did it. Finally I came across this nifty touchscreen camera. It came in four different colors, and seemed pretty durable. I read the reviews and I second-guessed myself from purchasing it. Half the reviews were really good and half were really bad. So I decided to go against the bad reviews and try it out for myself. The camera is so easy to use. The touchscreen (which is plastic) is great. It doesnt leave behind finger prints or anything! And there's no glare which is nice. People complained how cheap that is... but it makes the camera nice, and light-weight! Anyhow, next complaint was POOR picture quality. All you need to do is change the ISO and ta-da, no more grainy pics. The features are endless on it! You can totally edit your pics right on the camera, add cute little frames and stamps and even doodle on pics. Its a lot of fun! And a heck of a lot cheaper than other touchscreen cameras I came across. Read the manual, and once you know how this cool camera works, I promise, you will be SO happy with it.
