4.0 out of 5 stars Nikon D3 handbook necessary or not?, December 19, 2010

I've had this book for several months and have read it from cover to cover. It's contents are generally clear, concise, and easily, followed. The books dimensions make it easy to pack for reference. The D3 is so complicated that at some point in time you will need to reference something. However, like all books, especially the Nikon owners manual, it will leave you with only essential details when some very intricate and specific detail is desired. This book is basic (no color photo's) and is generally to the point. The book also includes guidelines pertaining to Nikon flashes. This area of the book at best is an overview. Most people will want a separate more detailed reference book for flash. Based on its content, solid guidelines,, price, and size, I would say this book is a great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT for advanced photographers., June 1, 2012

This is a good book for a beginner photographers. It goes over basic camera function and basic photography principles. It does not go into the depths of what this camera is capable of. It is also not an easier to read manual. Why beginner photographers would be mucking about with a D3 I couldn't tell you, but if they are, this is the book for them. If you know what a histogram is or what "24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S" means, this is not for you.

This is a lot of camera with a lot of capabilities! This book is both a good start as well as a pretty good reference. Not as technical as some might like, but it covers most of what you'll need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amopng the best, October 19, 2009

The architecture of the book makes it easier to find operational areas of interest than any other book I have read. The quality of print and color layout is outstanding. The print and subject layout combined with comlete yet very simple and clear explanations lead to the development of an intuitive feel for the holistic operation of the camera and its software. That's an over the top description of a book that is easy on the eyes and mind making it easier to remember what you have read. If you can remember what you have read, assuming you are not clinically classified as dumb, you can relatively easily utilize the camera's capabilities leaving you to focus on making a good photo. That's really the point of this type of book and it does it exceedingly well. If you are clinically classifed in an unfortunate category, the book provides adhesive backed operation outline stickers that can be applied wherever useful depending on your clinical classification.
