I don't write many reviews, but feel compelled to do so in this case because I found a number of the other reviews either ambiguous or contradictory. I just couldn't find a clear and simple description of EXACTLY what this case can comfortably hold, and ended up waiting far longer than I needed to before I felt comfortable enough to order this case. I really wish that I hadn't waited, because it turns out that this is a nice case that holds a great deal. Hopefully this review will help others who want a clear understanding of the capacity of the case.

In simple terms, the main compartment of this case easily and comfortably holds: A Nikon D3000 or D5000 with the 18-55mm lens attached, a 55-200mm lens, and the battery charger and AC cord. All you need to do is remove and reconfigure the partitions so that you use two of the partitions to create three sections within the main compartment. Simple as that. If you don't want to store your camera with the lens attached, no problem, that works as well, and will even create a touch more free space within the main compartment.

The front zippered pocket can store the camera's shoulder strap, the video cable, the USB cable, and several SD cards. It might hold a little more, but that's all that I have in there. There are also two small side pockets that can hold extra SD cards or other small, fairly flat items of your choosing. For those that really want to carry the manual around, there is room for it to rest on top of the main compartment. The top of the case will easily fold over it and buckle closed with no problem.

Hopefully that helps. No guesswork, no speculation. Just a factual report of what this case comfortably holds. In short, I think that this is a great case for the Nikon D3000 or D5000. It's well constructed and comfortable to carry, and although I haven't viewed it yet, the DVD seems to be a valuable bonus.

The instructional video is excellent it is the best way to get started if you have never used this camera, even if you are an experienced photographer.

The camera case is nicely designed with a lot of extra Velcro partitions and specialty compartments and pockets for accessories. And if you remove unused partitions you may have room for one additional (e.g. 55-200 VR)lens. However, the owners manual will not fit in the case or a side pocket. This would be a perfect case if it were made slightly larger. If you will likely add an additional lens to your arsenal you might seriously evaluate other storage options that are more roomy, especially if you would like to keep the manual for a such a sophisticated camera close at hand when you travel.

Good quality case for my Nikon D3000 and charger; all adjustable inside to keep camera in soft and stress free position. Has extra space for cables, SD, but not for extra optics.

While some of the other reviews mention that you cant fit an additional lens, that doesnt seem to be a problem for me. The second lens is a snug fit and you have you put is vertically, but you can use the foam seperators to protect them. I have a D5000 with the 18-55 lens. I keep that attached to the body, and put my other 55-200 lens vertically in this case. Plus it holds all other accessories and wires. The best thing is that its not as big as some of the other cases.

2.0 out of 5 stars the bag doesn't close well, thus not protecting the camera adequately, October 19, 2010

It's very surprising to me that the main part of the bag closes with two buckles rather than a zipper. I am returning it because I can envision undesired things getting into the bag (dirt, water if it rains even a little) and can even imagine something falling out of the main compartment (although there is a smaller zipper compartment on the side). I'm going for a bag that seems more secure - I suppose if I could afford this camera, I can afford a decent bag to protect it!

2.0 out of 5 stars The bag is way too small and has no zipper so small things can fall out, October 6, 2010
This review is from: Nikon D3000-D5000 DSLR Starter Kit with Nikon School DVD Fast, Fun & Easy III / IV and D-SLR System Case (Electronics)
This is a review on the bag, not the disc (as I haven't viewed the disc yet). I got this bag as part of a package deal a couple months back with the D5000 which included an 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens. Luckily it was included free because I would have been extremely disappointed if I had paid for it. It barely fit the camera, lenses and 2 filters I purchased, and it worked best if I left the lense off. The fact that it has no zippers allowed for small items to slip out under the cover if stored in the inner section. With the 2 cords included, my lense cleaning kit, a couple of memory cards, and a tiny tripod (about 4 inches long and 1/2 inch wide) I couldn't even fit the battery charger in with the camera, which resulted in having and exhausted battery on a couple of occasions and no way to charge it. Considering how much I had dropped on the camera, I really didn't want to have to go out and purchase an additional battery and a new bag right away, but I finally broke down and ordered them last week. I'm glad I did. I was never so happy to see the Lowepro Slingshot 102 AW arrive in the mail. I switched everything out immediately, it all fit nicely plus there was room to spare (which will allow for a speedflash when I can afford it). If you get this bag for free, I suggest using it for a couple of weeks/months till you find a better bag (I would recommend any of the Lowepro products). If you plan on purchasing it, I would suggest saving your money and putting it towards a better bag.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bag for the d5000, March 14, 2010

This review is from: Nikon D3000-D5000 DSLR Starter Kit with Nikon School DVD Fast, Fun & Easy III / IV and D-SLR System Case (Electronics)
I purchased this starter kit mainly because it came at a discounted price with my d5000. It does well as an everyday case, and holds the camera and accessories quite well. At most times, it carries my d5000 with the 18-55 lens attached, my 70-300 lens, the battery charger, a pogo printer with charger and usb cable, the camera remote release, and some lens wipes. That is a lot to carry for one bag, and the rubberized bottom is a plus for stability. The adjustable compartments are also nice for when you're changing lenses of varying size. My only complaint is of it's box shape, which can get in the way on the subway or bus. A rounder shape would have been nice, but it's just a tiny inconvenience until I get a larger backpack type bag.
This is a great starter case, but if you're looking to haul a professional's load of equipment, then definitely go for a higher end/larger bag.
The DVD was a great introduction to the camera, as well as to the world of DSLR photography. As a point and shoot user, I was grateful to have this tutorial as a supplement for the dry read of the manual.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bag for Nikon D3000-D5000 DSLR and Nikon School DVD, January 27, 2010

This bag is good for carrying around my Nikon D5000 with its basic lens, USB cable and video cable, spare battery, and the camera user's manual. Just don't expose this bag to rain.

The Nikon School DVD is a very good source of introducing new owners to the wonders of using their Nikon D3000-D5000 DSLR. Believe me, the host, the sights, and sounds are pleasant and instructive.

Having just purchased a Nikon DSLR camera, I needed a bag to protect my investment. This bag was made specifically for the Nikon DSLR's. There are "sections" within the bag, to cradle each lens, extra gadgets and the camera. There are side pockets in which to store the extra battery packs, the lens cleaner, etc. An instruction video was included, but to be honest, we haven't viewed it yet (having to much fun playing with the new camera), so I can't rate that. The price was great. I originally went to Best Buy to purchase the bag and the exact one was $59.00. So, I went to another store and they wanted even more. So, I really feel I found a great deal, and the shipping was quick! This isn't a "hard shell" bag, but it is heavily padded and will definately protect your camera and it's accessories.

I knew that this bag wasn't the biggest one ever made, but I was not prepared for how small it really is. I have a D90 with 18-105 lens. Everything from the D90 kit (camera, lens, charger, cords, etc) will fit in this bag if you package it carefully.

I liked the looks of this bag and figured I could make it work, so that's why I bought it. It works, but forget about taking extra lenses. I figured from the picture that I could fit my owner's manual in the zipper-net compartment under the lid.....NOPE!! TOO SMALL!!

It's a nice, well made, bag but it's too darn small for a D90. I can't imagine that it would work much better with a D40, D3000, or D5000....especially if you intend to carry more gear than what came in your camera kit.

If you never intend to buy any extra lenses and have a shoehorn handy, then this is your bag! Otherwise, look for something bigger.
