Great content, great format,

This review is from: The Nikon D80 Dbook: Your Interactive Guide to DSLR Photography (Hardcover)
As a novice DSLR user who was brand new to the D80, I found "The Nikon D80 Dbook: Your Interactive Guide to DSLR Photography" to be indispensable in learning how to get the most out of my new camera. The book quickly helped me to move beyond the "AUTO" mode to maximize the capability of the equipment using clean, clear direction and examples made even easier to grasp by the 500+ pages of electronic pages on the included DVD, which I felt to be the true advantage of this help text. If you, like me, are a visual learner, this is the book format for you. Having had difficulty grasping abstract concepts and visual examples in other static written text, the "Dbook" was a refreshing change. Dynamic examples, demo's and comparative shots made understanding the potential of the camera (and me as well) much clearer. Finally, the 50 page text was a great reference guide that now resides in my camera backpack for use in the field.
Overall: cool content in an extremely well designed format. Highly recommended.

Good Content On CD (CD!!),

This review is from: The Nikon D80 Dbook: Your Interactive Guide to DSLR Photography (Hardcover)
'The Nikon D80 Dbook: Your Interactive Guide to DSLR Photography' is more like a book that comes with a disc. Yes there is a hardcover 50 page book that has bright, nice pictures, but the content of how to use your camera and what it can do for you is all found on the enclosed CD with the book. Does this type of 'book' work for everyone? Probably not. It's a very niche way to teach and learn. If you are the type that likes thumbing through a book and book only to learn how to use things, this will NOT be for you. If you are the interactive type of person that wants to sit in front of the computer and flip through pictures and learn in an interactive way, the content on the CD is thorough and usable.
Recommended for those that don't care about how the information is presented and want to learn how to use their Nikon in a good way. Also recommended for those that prefer to learn on the computer. Not for those the want to do it "old school" and sit with a huge reference manual on their lap. **** RECOMMENDED

This computer based manual is superior to all the other D80 books to date in that it is interactive and allows one to see how different settings can yield differing results. If it were on paper, it would be over 600 pages and still would not be interactive.

Good general overview of the D80 to help the user to get to know the camera better. They break it down really well.

Computer based books are not for me,

The material in the book was Ok and about equal to the othe Nikon D80 books already on the market. What I did not like was the computer based format and inability to take it into the field and having to "read" it at my computer. Not my lifestyle, I guess. The book does come with a camera function field guide which I rate as average.
I am old fashoned and like to flip through a book to find answers and mark it up with notes, etc. Also I found that my reading was slowed because of the slow computer paging function. Also the book was formatted for a computer screen which I believe resulted in the 600 plus "pages". A real book with proper typesetting and composition would have been about 250 to 275 pages. In hindsight I would not have bought the book.

Isn't a fun way to learn more of the D80. For just text, I rather prefer a printed version of a book.
