5.0 out of 5 stars Great entry level SLR
If you're an amateur photographer looking for a camera to start shooting, this is your best choice.

Nikon has made this model the easiest to use. I don't use the guide mode much but if you don't know anything about SLRs you can learn a lot from this camera.

Pros:
.Rugged feeling
.Lots of shooting tips
.Retouch and review modes...

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch out
The stuff is great -- except that I got an obsolete lens. Newest Nikon 55-200mm lenses have VR (vibration reduction). But not mine -- I got some old crap that was laying around, apparently for years. It's a good lens, but could be a lot better if it was the current model. So buyer beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great entry level SLR, November 2, 2009

This review is from: Nikon D3000 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens & 55-200mm DX Zoom Lens with 8GB Card + EN-EL9a Battery + Nikon Gadget Bag + Accessory Kit (Electronics)
If you're an amateur photographer looking for a camera to start shooting, this is your best choice.

Nikon has made this model the easiest to use. I don't use the guide mode much but if you don't know anything about SLRs you can learn a lot from this camera.

Pros:
.Rugged feeling
.Lots of shooting tips
.Retouch and review modes very useful
.Very nice photo quality overall

Cons:
.No auto-bracketing
.Custom white balance's not too easy to set up.
.No live view

Overall this is a great product. It lacks some features that as a professional might make your job easier but except for the auto bracketing that I missed, you can live with the other stuff with no problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great camera.... great bundle!, February 8, 2010

This review is from: Nikon D3000 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens & 55-200mm DX Zoom Lens with 8GB Card + EN-EL9a Battery + Nikon Gadget Bag + Accessory Kit (Electronics)
I've been incredibly happy with the Nikon D3000 bundle we purchased. Talk about a great camera / lenses at a fair price! When I've told other people what we paid and what we got they're amazed. (Several people paid what we paid just for the camera BODY of their DSLR).

The Nikon D3000 has great features with an easy set up right out of the box. The "green mode" has been wonderful for my wife who has only used point-and-click cameras. Now, she's taking GREAT shots without having to know the ins and outs of photography. I have experimented with some of the modes and using the included 55-200mm zoom lens. I've been very happy with the results! This camera has been great to capture family moments - quickly. And, there's been nothing better for grabbing our very active toddler in action... he was nothing but a blur in our point-and-shoot, now, we're getting those cute and funny moments with perfect clarity. I would say this is a great easy to use / understand camera for the beginning photographer but has plenty of features to keep an experinced photographer happy (and both are done on a budget!).

The extra battery, 18-55mm lens, 55-200mm zoom, Nikon bag, memory card, card reader, lens cleaning kit (did I forget anything?) has been SUCH a blessing and is what makes this bundle such a great value. WHY would you just buy the camera body or just the camera / lens combo, when you can have ALL this?? The extra battery and bag alone are worth it... then you throw in a zoom that usually costs $200+... and MORE??? C'mon, it's nuts to not buy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great camera for the price and easy to use, December 1, 2009

This is by far the easiest SLR digital camera I have ever used. The manual was easy to understand and I started shooting pictures without any problems. So far, I have only taken pictures indoor with natural day light and with the built-in flash in AUTO setting as well as manual settings. While the pictures taken with the built-in flash were acceptable, they came out a little dark when in AUTO mode. When in manual mode, making adjustments to the f-stops, and other features take some getting used to. While the quality is much better when you can find the correct combinations, but it was trail and error. I borrowed my son-in-law's Nikon flash unit and the pictures were much better using the AUTO setting. One feature I like is how light the camera is even when fitted with the longer lense. All-in-all, this is a vey good starter SLR digital camera.

I have been checking around to find an SLR that I could upgrade to from the ordinary cameras they have out there. I have been using the Sony cybershot which I do love and it is great for basic photography but I wanted one that I could do more with and with this camera you can do so much. I would not have thought to pick up all of the items that come with this package and the carry case is much better than I would have expected it to be with this price. I have only used this a few times but the pictures are beautiful, crisp and clear. I would definately recommend this camera.

I had done quite a bit of research as I was moving up to a DSLR from my film slr and digital point and shoots. I've been a devoted Olympus fan for years, and I did look at their dslr's, as well as Nikon, Canon and Pentax. I had waited a long time to make this purchase and I wanted to make the best choice for me. I talked to several people I know who are camera enthusiasts and a couple of pros. I researched several sites online and also went into stores so that I could really get the feel of the camera I was buying. I think that was a critical point for me. The Nikon just felt the best in my hands. This camera has a great feel, everything in easy reach and where you would expect it to be. Light-weight and fits my smaller hands.

I've loved shooting with it. One of the beautiful things about digital photography is that you can shoot away and experiment and see your results immediately. And you don't have to worry about paying for film processing. So the learning curve is much faster and I think you can experiment more and be more creative as you learn. I do not miss live view - as I don't like using it anyway. I'd much rather frame my shots through a viewfinder. I also don't miss the video feature, as I wouldn't use that either. I have a video camera for that. The 10mp is sufficient for my needs. While I do often crop photos to get just the right print, I rarely print to larger sizes. While it is billed as an entry level dslr, it has all of the features I need and the ability to expand through the broad range of Nikon lenses. I love doing candid portraits and travel/nature photography, and have been very pleased with my results so far. I know the guide mode is there, but I haven't really used it much. It might be a nice feature for some. AS I said, you can really just experiment and see your results as you go. Its a better way to learn for me. I've played with most of the programmed modes, which are nice to have when I am trying to catch a quick shot. I've liked the control you have to chose your own settings when i want.

Once I decided on the camera - I went in search of the best price. I've been very pleased with the package and price that I got through Amazon. I knew I wanted the kit lens and also the 55 - 200 lens. You need the SD card as well, and the extra battery and case are nice bonuses. So all in all, I think the package was a great value. I'll eventually add a good wide angle and several fitlers to my options, and I should be set to go. All in all, I have been very pleased with this purchase and would recommend the Nikon D3000 to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Camera for a starter, March 18, 2010

This camera has good features like High ISO and Resolution, but if you are a Pro, you probably won't like it.
It has some limited features, but for a person who is upgrading to SLR, or for a Photography and Graphic Design student is great. It's a very complete package with 2 good lenses and a bunch of accesories.

I was a little skeptical buying such an expensive item thru amazon.com from a company I had never heard of, but I am very happy with my purchase. The products work great, I love my camera and all the other items that came with it. I think I got a pretty good deal! :)

Definitely too much camera for the casual user. However, point and shoot features and picture quality are great. It's going to take a lot of practice to master the other features if you're not an experienced photographer which I am not. Pop up flash is pretty limited. An auxilliary flash to enhance photo shooting quality is recommended. If you're not an experienced photog, I recommend buying "Nikon D3000 For Dummies", or the "Nikon D3000 Digital Field Guide" by J. Dennis Thomas to better understand the camera's features and uses. They both provide enhanced step-by-step details on using the camera way beyond the instruction manual that comes with the camera.

This is a great deal for this package!!! I shopped around for at least 6 months and no-one could come anywhere close to the price I paid for all I received in this purchase. I had no problems whatsoever in the ordering, paying, shipping or receiving process of this order. I am loving my new camera package and am learning how to use different features. I would recommend to anyone looking to purchase an SLR digital to consider this package.
