Before purchasing this I looked at it in a local store. Bag was just like the photo shown here on Amazon. Price at the local store was $99. So, I bought one from Amazon for $60. Was excited, even with the free Super Saver shipping I got it 2 days later! Then I opened the box, and found the bag was not as shown, or as I saw it in the local store. The bag is black with a yellow trim piece. It is a square bag with SMALL side pockets. Useless. Don't know if they are shipping an old version or a newer version, but its not what's shown and not what's in stores. I returned mine.

UPDATED: The photo now shown is the correct photo of what they send you. Still confused why this kit in the stores (with same model number) has a bigger and nicer bag. Never-the-less, the bag shown here is too small and useless for the D40 with any accessories or additional lenses.

I bought this bag for my wife to protect her new Nikon D40. I love it and I really like all the items that came with it. My only regret is that I bought a spare battery before finding out that the bag came with a battery. Once you subtract the cost of the battery, this bag ends up costing about US$15 (+/-) and the quality is excellent. The only complaint is that if you also buy the Nikon D40 soft case (as I did) you will not be able to put the camera with the soft case in the bag. So you will have to decide what you want to do. We figure that when the camera is being used around the house or not on a trip, the soft case will do. Otherwise, we use this bag. Highly recommend it, especially if you want to buy a second battery for your camera.

I purchased this because I read some of the reviews and thought it would work OK for what I needed. I wanted a nice camera for all of those soccer games, concerts, and family events that would take nice pictures. I wanted a bag that would hold the few items I had.

This one doesn't do it!

I bought the Nikkon 40Dx with 18-55 lens, the mid-range SB600 flash, and the 55-200mm zoom lens. That's all I plan to get and this bag can't handle it. As previous reviews said, it's a small bag with a tight fit. It is a REALLY tight fit. So tight, that I cannot leave on my zoom lens and put the camera in the bag. It's only 2" longer than the other lens, but it doesn't fit. There is also not quite enought space for the flash. It needs just about 1 more inch. I do manage to cram everything in there, but it stinks.

The strap is also not long enough. At it's longest extension, it hangs just above my waist when it's just on one shoulder. If I try and put it over my head and shoulder to carry with me while I'm taking shots, it hangs so high it gets in the way. The strap needed to be a little longer as well.

Overall, I would not recommend this bag. The book isn't that useful, if you do some web research as you can find the information out there. The bag is just a little too small for the basics. The price isn't even that great as I found out.

when I purchased this item, I noticed one of the review said the bag is rather small, with yellow strip not as shown in picture. But some other said the bag can hold everything. I guess there might be two version. I got the version with yellow strip. The extra battery is nice but the quality of bag is average. It is too small for 18-200 nikon lens. When I come back to amazon to write the review, the picture of product is removed from the web.

This is a great looking bag. I looked all over for a bag that would carry my D40x and a few extras - for less than $100. This bag does the job. The construction is solid. The design is very attractive. The price ($48 through Amazon), with an extra battery and book, was great. The book is nothing more than a glorified pamphlet, but the battery is nice and will come in handy on long trips.

My one complaint is that, as others have mentioned, it is a bit on the small side. It seems to have been built to fit the D40/D40x cameras like a glove. But they forgot to make the bag and therefore the back pocket about an half an inch larger so that I could carry the Nikon manual with me! So the pocket is useless for anything larger than a few postcards. Small oversight, but I'm learning to make compromises for the great (yet also limited) D40x.

Actually, I needed an extra battery for the Nikon D40x and couldn't turn down the package. If you need a camera bag, this will meet all your needs. I am using it for my flash equipment and have put 4 flash units(2 full size and 2 compact), several flash filters, 3 table top tripods, 3 slave adapters, some cables, a small bracket, and lots of AAs and a battery charger comfortably and neatly organized. I love it! I have several Nikon bags for storing my cameras and accessories and am pleased with each. Just grab the bags I want that day. Not to tempt the dishonest in our midst, when I go out for a day of wandering with a camera, I usually use a nondescript bag from Tamrac. If you are a novice to photography, the Nikon book will give you a great understanding of the fundamentals you should know.

I bought this bag when they had a picture on the website. After I received the bag, i was amazed to see that its not what I ordered. I was very dissapointed when I received the package, however i have not returned it yet. The bag is Ok, the book is not a great help. I guess, the bag is adequate if you dont plan to buy additional lens, flash rightaway.

The bag fits nearly everything I need. It's not something I would carry everywhere, though, as it's a bit bulky. I have two lenses, so I usually just pick which one I'll be using and take the camera without the bag. I bring the bag along on road trips or when I'm not sure which lens I'll need/want.

I purchased this bag because for the price, you're essentially purchasing a bag and getting a free spare battery. The bag has enough space for the camera, 2 spare lenses, a speedlight, battery, USB cables, spare speedlight batteries, and some other junk. It seems padded enough to protect from minor bumps. Overall, a decent method of transporting your camera. The included book... well, has some pretty pictures, but probably shouldn't be considered in purchasing this bag.

The bag looks nice and has lots of divisions and pockets. The included battery alone would cost as much as the whole package so it is a good value. Not that I need another battery immediately, but it is comfortable to know that I have a spare with me all the time.

However, the bag tends to slide off my shoulder, especially when I have to bend over to attend to my other lugguage. I am thinking of acquiring another backpack type bag and a camera case.
