Speed that changes everything

Game-changing continuous shooting speed

Nikon 1 cameras achieve a level of speed and accuracy that once was unimaginable, and the Nikon 1 V3 takes that performance even further. Capture thrilling views of sports, fast action and spontaneous moments with game-changing continuous shooting speed: 20 fps at full resolution with full autofocus performance. When using fixed focus, increase that burst rate to a mind-boggling 60 fps and capture sights other cameras may miss. The Nikon 1 V3's Hybrid AF System uses 171 AF points for contrast detection and 105 AF points for phase detection to lock onto your subject the moment it enters the frame with virtually zero lag on the camera's LCD display. Few cameras are better suited for fast action photography than the Nikon 1 V3.

Image quality that inspires

Stunning photos and videos in any light

Nikon's CX-format CMOS image sensor is one of the most exciting innovations in image sensor design and the secret behind Nikon 1's unrivaled speed, image quality and elegant design. The Nikon 1 V3 pairs an enhanced 18.4-MP CX-format CMOS image sensor with Nikon's new EXPEED 4A image processor for spectacular detail and color rendering, blazing-fast speed and brilliant low-light performance. Shoot sharp, clear, noise-free photos and videos up to ISO 12,800—continue shooting in fading light long after lesser cameras have been put back in their cases. Bring the Nikon 1 V3 everywhere you go, and preserve important moments beautifully.

pros:

-The build quality is upper level DSLR like.

-The v3 can use EN-EL20 batteries same as AW1, J1, J2, J3, S1, and coolpix A.

The EN-EL20a has 1110mAh rating vs the EN-EL20's 1020mAh

-The camera feels great with and without the optional grip.

-The grip material is pro DSLR like.

-The side memory card/usb/hdmi door is spring loaded hinged and feels solid.

-All buttons a dials feel solid and well made.

-EVF feels solid on camera and is attached with metal latch hooks on both bottom sides.

-EVF can only be released when both release buttons on bottom sides are pressed.

-V3 with grip and EVF is light but solid feeling.

-AE-L/AF-L button can be programmed to function as AF-ON like pro nikon DSLRs

-EVF looks alot better then V1

-Both EVF and display have a faster refresh rate then V1.

-Noise level improved. you can feel good about using ISO A3200

-On Delay is minimal. (>2sec)

-Greater Detail.

-Buffer Clears relatively fast. (from 40 images raw=18sec raw+fine=40sec)

After 3 sec of filling buffer you can continue to shoot.

Memory Card used Sandisk Extreme Pro 16GB

-The new 10-30 kit lens has a build quality like the 6.7-13 lens.

-Includes a little baggy for the EFV.

-Tilt screen feels solid.

-Touch response for display is quick.

- the eye detect sensor off button works great allowing you to either keep the EVF on only or the Display. (This is helpful when you need the camera ready in an instant and like to use the EVF)

- The built in flash can be held in the up position for bounce flash.

I really like my V3. I also have a V1 and J3. And a panasonic GF1. I have been using it since May 5th. Recently gave away my Nikon D300 after I concluded that I just did not use this camera anymore. While my heart said "use that D300" my practical hands always reached for the J3 and now the V3 when I left on a trip. My typical configuration is with the 10-100 zoom or the 10 f2.8.

Things I liked:

- The top dial mode dial - nikon added the PSAM options - making it a lot easier to get to these modes that I use. Makes this camera similar to their dslr (I also had a d300 that I gave away). I find myself going to the menu button a lot less now, compared to the J3 and V1.
- Detachable EVF and handgrip. Not everyone likes the removable EVF. My hands are small, so i don't really want the handgrip. I love the detachable EVF, because on trips where space is a premium, I don't pack the EVF, and this V3 is almost as small as my J3.
- 2 dials to adjust aperture and shutter speed: Change Aperture with the small dial on the front of the body, next to the lens. Change Shutter speed with the dial on the top of the body. Makes using Manual mode easier - actually possible - compared to the V1.
- Super fast. This is a very fast camera. fast to turn on, fast to focus, fast to shoot, 10 fps, 20fps, 30 fps, 60 fps - it is very fast!
- Eye sensor off option. If you want to use the EVF exclusively, you can turn off the eye sensor and it stays on the EVF without switching back to the LCD screen.
- Tilting LCD screen - its great. Feels strong and sturdy.
- weight and build feel. This is very subjective. I love the weight and size. I find myself taking this camera almost on all my trips now.

The Nikon 1 V3 is one step forward to the end of the mirrors and the mechanical shutters. If Nikon will use this technology in Fullframes it will become the number one.
I have all the Nikon 1V series cameras. And the V3 is the best. I just dont understand why the EVF is not build in fix, like on the V2 and V1. By the way the EVF is phantastic. I have not seen anything similar yet. AF is faster as everything else I've seen. My D800 is not used for everyday fotographie anymore, just for wide pictures of Landscapes with the 14-24 zoom and of course mor professional Portraits with the Bokeh of the 70-200 f2.8.
The Build quality and the haptic of the V3 is very good and even if it is not heavy it feels very solid.
I don't like the use of Micro SD cards, but that has nothing to do with the quality.
I've tested the Sony A6000 as well, but that back screen is like a mirror and 16:9 and the EVF can never match the Nikon one so it is useless for me. The bigger sensor does not matter, they get better with every new generation anyway.
I think nthe new FujiFilm Viefinder may match the Nikon EVF, but ther are no Lenses yet and the speed AF speed does not reach the 60 fps...
I love my V3 and I can use my big Nikkor Lenses with the FT1 Adapter....

Great camera. It's Nikon's attempt to capture the younger, millennial consumer, as well as the hobbyist and pro. It's a good camera. I use it as a travel and backup to my Nikon D600. This camera is becoming my favorite, especially since it does take the same FX lenses that my D600 can, with the FT1 adapter. The camera is very sharp and I'm not regretting the purchase and upgrade from the Nikon 1 V2.
