This is what it says in the Nikon 880 Owners Manual:

"Although the COOLPIX 880 can be used with non-rechargeable 2CR5 (DL245) lithium batteries, available at a wide variety of retail outlets, we recommend the rechargeable Nikon EN-EL1 Li-ion battery, available separately from Nikon. This lithium-ion battery, for use exclusively with the COOLPIX 880, can be recharged with the EH-21 AC adapter/battery charger, which doubles as an AC adapter. While the battery recharges, you can connect the camera to the EH-21 and use an AC power source for shooting or playback."

This item is a MUST BUY if you own, or plan to own a Nikon Coolpix 880! The Nikon 880 does not come with a rechargeable battery or a recharger/adapter. I like this product because you can recharge the battery, and have the camera powered by any nearby electrical outlet simultaneously. This option is good for when you are downloading your pictures onto your computer from your camera. I don't know what I would do without this product.

This product is a must have. Plug it into the camera and take pictures without batteries. Works great for downloading pictures onto the computer. And the best thing is it recharges the Nikon rechargeable battery in about 3-4 hours...a lot better than overnight with some products.

In keeping with the notion that a company makes their realmoney off accessories, you have to buy a special Nikon battery andrecharger. Please note that buying this product is not enough. Youneed both EH-21 AC Adapter /Charger and EN-EL1 Lithium-ionRechargeable Battery. That's over$...! If there's any consolation,the nikon website offers a ... rebate if you buy both together. Ishould repeat what another person said about the batteryindicator. Often the indicator icon says the battery is low when thebattery seems to be working fine. That still does not provide anycomfort. But turning it off and on can do wonders to it.

I purchased the Nikon charger/adaptor because I went through batteries like water. This unit allows me to either use batteries or the wall socket. It is nice to have an extra rechargable battery as back up. At $$$ to $$$ a throw away, it is well worth it expecially if there are no stores close by with batteries.

the camera if you don't want to put out for the charger and batteries. You just have to have it the way digital cameras eat up the power. The only complaint I have about this charger is it does not seem to know when the batterie is recharged or having a problem. Probably just the unit I have but it works fine as long as I'm not in a hurry.
