Nikon EH-5A AC Adapter for Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D80, D700 & D300 Digital SLR Cameras

I bought this adapter because I wanted to take photos with my Nikon D70s for use as time lapse movies, and because the battery won't hold out over a whole day for this purpose. Using gphoto2, I hooked my camera up to an Ubuntu box via USB, and wrote a bash script to take a picture every 60 seconds, starting at 6am. This adapter allowed the camera to be powered all day long from 6am to 6pm without interruption.

One important thing to note, is that although the photo shows only the power brick and the cord with the special Nikon camera power plug on it, this product DOES come with another cord that attaches the power brick to the wall.

I would have given this 5 stars, but I think the pricing is outrageous. The only part of this product that is "special" is the plug that fits into the camera. The rest (power brick, power cord) is just generic, and probably very cheap to produce. However, for powering your Nikon DSLR camera, there doesn't seem to be any alternative.

This power adapter works for the Nikon D50. It comes with the ac plug portion, which is not pictured.

Expensive as hell, but essential for certain kinds of work. Like exposure times of several hours (as in astrophotography) or with the D300 having it take pictures at intervals without you even beging there.

$80 is a bit much for a simple AC adapter, but anything that says Nikon on it is tripled in price. It's either buy this or wear out $40 batteries. What really gets me is having to buy two of them. I bought the model (EH6 I believe) for my D200 and then I had to buy this one when I upgraded to a D300. You would think that the 2 cameras are so similar that they would use the same voltages.

But, I guess if you want to play with the big guys you have to pay the price.

Honestly I wasn't going to get this due to the high price, although I spend a lot on camera gear. That was until I had to shoot Jewelry and decided to use live view on my D700. The fact that you can fine tune lighting and focus, and see it on a computer screen at the same time(I was tethered on a laptop) was extremely helpful. However, my batteries were running out of juice like crazy, I had to keep one on the charger and one in the camera all the time. Live view will suck the life out of your batteries. It's just I don't understand why do we have to pay 80 USD for a power cable. I tried finding aftermarket products but couldn't find any, so I had to bite the bullet.

I had a really hard locating this item from local vendors... everyone was out. I then found it listed on Amazon and ordered it with expidited shipping. Received it quickly and on time, and it works great with my D80 camera. I downloaded a time lapse program online to operate the camera automatically via laptop and I have run time lapse for periods longer than a week and then made them into stop-shot videos with great success.

The picture depicting this product lacks another connection that goes to the wall to make it complete. No need to buy a connection to the wall. Anyway, to cut a long story short, this product does what it says it will do -- give me continous use of my camera without draining my battery. Our house here has outdoor outlets front and back, side and other sides of the house so I can actually use this in and around our property, besides inside the house. And oh -- it works with the D90 too.

The price for this product is **WAY** to high for what it is, but i couldn't find it cheaper elsewhere. I need it for time-lapse pictures so the batteries don't run down, I just use this adapter.

Basically its a Power supply and it does just that

The Main Positive is that i looked around and this thing was hard to find in Stores. Even Camera stores like Wolf, Ritz, and B&H video didn't carry it. Amazon of all the places i found it online was the cheapest, since on nikons site it was over $100.

So i say it gets five stars for that alone.

It does what it is supposed to do. As others have said, it works fine with the D50, no other adapter needed other than this item.
