5.0 out of 5 stars A very good choice., February 16, 2005

I have bought a couple of binoculars in the past. Always thinking the higher magnification was better. That's not always true as keeping the object steady at 10 and higher with your hands is tough. The higher mags also suck up light making the image darker. Now I have an Eagleview Zoom and don't worry which model I should have chosen. For the most part it stays at 8 but when I really need to get close the zoom is great. The turn and slide eyecups are a fine feature.

Love 'em.

I've wanted to purchase a pair of binoculars for a couple of years, but kept putting it off because I figured I'd have to dump at least $300 on a quality pair. I wanted something compact, good quality, and affordable. Not exactly an easy order. But after reading the reviews for these bins, I figured I'd give them a try. All I can say is wow. These are exactly what I was looking for. They provide a very crisp image at the lower magnification levels. And even at 24x, although usually impractical, they are a lot of fun. I find it easy to focus and change the zoom level with one hand which is a plus. For general purpose viewing, these are fantastic binoculars. The bins shipped with a black velcro-flap carrying case with a belt loop on the back, and a small carrying strap that you can attach to your bins.

** UPDATE ** I've owned these bins for about 5 years now and they are still just like new. Despite frequent use, I am amazed at how well they have remained in tip top shape. None of the moving parts have become loose or worn. All of the optics are still just as crisp and clear as the day I bought them, and not once have I had a problem with condensation. So... five years later I can still claim that these are amazing binoculars that are very well made and are of great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good all-around binocs., November 5, 2006

Having had binoculars in the past be either way too expensive or too cheap, I wanted a new pair that would replace a pair that was loaned out, then lost. The opportunity presented itself in the form of a trip to Canada this past September, which required something that would be able to capture the Canadian Rocky vistas, but also not be so heavy that I would feel like needing a cart to stow them in. The Nikon Eagleview Binoculars seem to fill the bill (not too expensive, but also not too heavy). They have a great zoom feature that is easily changed as well as being able to easily focus with one hand. My only complaint is that while zooming in on a subject, the light level is reduced, which occurs naturally due to the nature of optics. You can't have everything, but these were just right, allowing my wife and I to use them time and time again while observing nature. In summary, a good pair for all-around use!
