There is plenty of learning material on the Nikon D5000 in this Nikon School DVD. The instructor is patient, speaks clearly, comes across being very friendly and informative, and you can see his passion for photography by the way he talks about photography. At first, I thought I saw this movie and paid for a DVD which was a free video download from the Nikon website. The first couple of scenes are free on the Nikon website, the rest of the DVD is not. Even the free scenes have extended footage on the DVD only. I would recommend to watch the movie several times to really absorb the material - I could feel my brain getting full about half-way through the video and decided to split it up over two days and to give myself a chance to practice what I saw. There are plenty of practical examples in the video too, once you watch the entire video, you can just skip to the section you care to watch again through the menu. This video has become a useful reference for me.

I bought this DVD with my D5000. This DVD gives a good visual explanation and demonstration of many, but not all of the features of the D5000 and what it is capable of. If you're new or newer to DSLRs, you will enjoy this DVD. It is far too basic for the more experienced photographer. It takes you from setup to a good basic explanation of the different shooting modes and demonstrates how to use them. This DVD is not a replacement for the manual that came with the camera. What it will do is remove some of the apprehension of using a DSLR and leave you feeling like you have some idea how to use it and take "good" pictures in different situations. Beginners might even watch it more than once. I think this DVD does a good job for its intended audience - new to newer DSLR users who purchase the D5000. I think even intermediate users may learn a little, though some of the content will be somewhat basic for that level of experience.

I found this 60 min DVD very informative as well as enjoyable. It takes you from how to charge the battery to using manual modes to get the best picture for your environment.

The narrator is big on light and vivid colors which I liked. It quickly goes over every function of the D5000 and you may have to watch it a few times if you are a beginning photographer. It is specific to the D5000. It also gives tips of becoming a better photographer....like backgrounds, light conditions, colors, environmental settings, staging a shot.....

This is only a supplement and it does not have time to fully explain the camera. I would get a good book on the D5000 to go with the DVD. Anyway I found it well worth the 10 bucks and would suggest you buying it if you are new to DSLR cameras.

Another helpful place to find camera specific information is U-Tube....They have several informative videos on the D5000.

Good basic information for the D5000. Goes through most settings and situations. The Blue Crane videos are much more in depth. Highly recommend volume 1, volume 2 is very intense as to colors and printing.

Although this cd is for the Nikon D5000, it is an excellent tutorial on digital photography in general.

I love this DVD. It shows the operation of the D5000 in a clear and direct format. It describes the function on the camera and highlights the related button with a red circle. This way I can hold the camera in one hand and operate the DVD remote (when needed) in the other, which is a whole lot easier than putting the camera down to read the manual. Brilliant!! I got the disc on line for $9 including shipping. It was well worth it. I will be taking a copy of the DVD on vacation.
If you're learning a Nikon camera, locate the corresponding Nikon school DVD, you'll love it. I promise.

Whether you're just new to the Nikon D5000 or new to DSLR cameras in addition to the Nikon D5000, you will get a lot out of this DVD. My Nikon D5000 is my first DSLR, so I learned a tremendous amount about what I can do, including how to do it with the specific camera. He also included a lot of composition and other tips for photography in general, while providing information about the specific functions and options on the D5000.

I'm so glad I bought the DVD, and I plan to watch it again and again, since there is a tremendous amount of information packed into the viewing time.

I almost always get detailed training session from the likes Aperture 1.1 Essential Training website and books. However since i just bought the Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD i have been just terrified with it! i mean i do have a tech enthusiasm but cameras are really not my thing (more on [...] ) But alas i did chance it went on an amazing self discovery mode in Dubai this past holidays season and just went nuts with 800 Pictures!

I had just watched this yesterday and i am like i wish i had this before hand! I did fiddle with the camera on my own but this sort of takes you by the hand and shows you quickly what you need to do without any hesitation. I am not new to digital photography nor am I new to SLR photography but I am new to digital SLR photography. This DVD is a nice start on using the Nikon D5000. The DVD gets you using the camera and then begin to flesh the incredible features. I highly recommend it.

Really helpful DVD for getting started with a DSLR from nikon. Well make and clear and concise directions that get you started fast using your DSLR.
